Have you ever been afraid of cooking? |
| |
| When I first started, I was afraid and nervous I would mess something up. As I went on, it became easier and I liked it more and more. Still, I've heard of some people who are afraid to cook, because they think they'll burn the house down or something. Has anyone ever felt like this before? | | | | | |

| | I am more adventurous in the kitchen now, but when I started I always had to have some kind of protection. It's not the cooking and the results that scare me, it's the thought of hot oil splashing on my face that pulls me back from making awesome food. I remember when I was younger, I preferred cooking scrambled eggs than just fried eggs/ sunny sides. It was because scrambled did not need much oil, but the fried eggs you have to 'spoon' hot oil on top to cook it through. Somehow a bubble just pops and a drop of hot oil lands on my face. Thank you, inventor of non-stick pans. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Imcueva, If you have time, cook eggs on a low heat. No splashing and much better flavor. It does take more time, but I think well worth it! | | | |

| | I cook a lot more now than I used to... and I still manage to mess things up, but am doing better now I have been told it's easier to get all your ingredients measured out first, so you have everything to hand... Whether thats true or not I don't know, but it has helped me. I really want to bake things like cakes, and biscuits for my kids, rather than buy the shop bought ones, so I am working on that lol! I did once have a little dilemma in the kitchen, which was when I lived with my parents, and they went away for a week without me or my brother, and my mum asked me if I would cook my brothers dinner for when he got in from work... this was ok and I did fine.... until I was supposed to cook him fresh cut chips, and fry them in the pan of oil on the cooker..... yes you guessed it... i created a rather large fire!!! Basically down to the fact that I didnt dry the potato chips properly before putting them in the oil, which had got far too hot, and whooooosh, the flames just literally hit the ceiling, taking down the cooker hood vent as it went!!! My parents were not impressed, but thankful that we were ok lol, thank goodness for wet teatowels!!! Anyway that event has put me off frying chips, and now if I have them which is not very often.... I use oven chips lol... I don't even possess a chip fryer or have a pan of oil on the cooker! | | | | | | |

| | I used to be unsure about cooking. I always worried I'd ruin the meal. But then I realized that it's pretty simple to follow a recipe (as long as it's not too complex). And now I make up my own dishes to cook and don't use measuring spoons or cups anymore. I just had to let go and get the hang of it :) | | | | | | |

| | When I started I cooked Briani and pages in my book got burn because I had put it near the stove to read at the same time while I am cooking so it was a very weird start but hopefully the food was very good as they all told me and today after one years of learning I can cook nearly everything. | | | | | | |

| | My middle daughter has a fear of cooking. It comes from her fear of getting burned, cut, and/or her fear of failure. I know she could conquer this if she tried, but she remains squeamish and recalcitrant. I know she'd be surprised at how easy cooking can be. Of course, there are also difficult recipes and operations, but they're not for everyday or for the faint of heart. | | | | | | |

| | Hi beachbabe! I think that at first all people have a fear of the kitchen and getting burnt and creating disasters. I went thru the same when I first started cooking, but after decades, it is easier and have no fear. If you don't use high flames (and most recipes don't call for it) you have less chance of getting a burn. And even as an experienced cook, not chef...at times I make create the most awful dishes, but it does not discourage me, just adds to the fun. Also makes the local dogs happy. They only refused my cooking one time! | | | | | | |
