Flea control inquiries.. |
| |
| I am curious about flea control drops that you get from the vet. Supposedly you put these drops on the back of their neck and on their back in front of their tail.. My question is, how does this repel fleas? Are these two spots like a roadway to the dog and so it makes it impossible for them to get fleas? Because before this, usually flea products you have to cover the dog, not just a couple spots.. The reason I am asking, and though I am not 100% sure if maybe we are not heavy into the flea season yet or not, but my puppies don't have fleas. (Trust me, I have had enough animals with fleas to know what to look for) So maybe the season is still to early, but I want to let you know what I have been doing. For one, when they get a bath, I use a shampoo that has lavender in it. Then, after they are completely dry I take this spray bottle with lavender oil and water and I spray it on those spots I mention earlier, the neck and tail. I reapply the spray once a week and whenever they get wet from the rain and so far there are no fleas. Do you think it is too early in the season? Because my daughters dog already had gotten a tick on her..(She forgot to apply her "vets" flea control when this happened) | | | | | |

| | Wow, so I wonder if lavender is poisonous to fleas? Because we haven't had a frost in a while and they still have no fleas. Plus, I got this idea from a friend of my daughter who uses this for her dog and cat and she said to use it just like the drops you get at the vets and to not use the lavender scent, but to make sure it was an oil. | | | |

| | Carmelanirel - You got me to wondering about the lavender oil also. So I went online and looked it up. And yes lavender oil is in many of the natural flea repellents. So if it is working keep reapplying as necessary. The only thing I could find about it is that it did not last but a couple of weeks where as the stuff from the vets last up to 3 months. | | | |

| | But the oil lasts a long time and is less expensive..Plus I don't know what is in the vets stuff, but I had a neighbor pull up some info on the chemicals in some of these products. I think I will stick with the lavender oil and thanks for the heads up on how often I have to reapply..So far with all this rain we had been getting, I am applying it at least once a week..:) | | | |

| | Oh it works. I use Frontline. It is expensive, but it works so well. I didn't put it on Sherlock until this month when the weather warmed up. I have used anti-flea shampoo before, and those flea collars they sell over the counter, but none of it worked. The drops though work like a charm. And if you want to save money, since you have puppies, you could put half of the drops on one puppy, and use the rest of it on the other. Since using Frontline, my dog has never had a tick, and has never had fleas. I remember how it was before I started using it. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Ambie. I was just wondering how it works because I use lavender oil on my puppies and they don't have any fleas..I like that it is less expensive though I have to reapply every 2 weeks and it is more natural..:) | | | |

| | Carm..The best flea control stuff on the market, hand down is "Advantage". It comes in a 3 pack, (little tubes) You open the tube and put the drops on the back of the neck, between the sholder blades. (they can't lick it off that way). The stuff absorbs into the skin right into the blood stream and repels the fleas. It works unbelievably well. Even if you dog is infested, within a day or so, no fleas. Each tube lasts about 3 months. It costs between 35 and 50 bucks depending on where you get it, but its worth every penny. There is another comperable one called Front Line which is pretty much the same in both the way it works and the price. Either one you an find is ok..I swear by it and would never be without it, espeially here in Florida where we have fleas year round and bad..If you try it ou will not be disappointed..J | | | | | | |

| | I agree about Advantage being good . Specially with ticks . Front Line didn't help us with tick problems , but Advantage did . There is also some spray I think it's called Revolution? As far as the lavender , that's wonderful if it's working for you! to go natural is much safer and how nice they would smell ! | | | |

| | No, they are biting pests that dogs and cats get and if they get out of control, they can bite you too and make their home in your furniture, making it difficult to get rid of.. | | | |

| | Well, I don't have to react for I don't know anything about these flea drops that you are discussing. I read your post and our friends reaction to your problem and I also learned because I have that same problem of you. Just this morning, I have to hand-pick those fleas and ticks from my dogs (they are three) and all of them has some. Yeah they are right that those shampoos doesn't work and fleas instead of dying have a lovely day having a bath too. Now I have to find these drops at the DIY store near me. Thanks everybody. This discussion is great and meaningful. | | | | | | |
