Starting a "discussion series" about German words - interesting for you? |
| |
| As I was just thinking about another discussion I had started today about differences between Germany and the USA, I was again thinking about... toilet brushes! Yes, that's right. In Germany, they are situated next to every toilet, but not in the USA... and they don't seem to miss them. Anyways, I was thinking about how the German word for toilet brush (Klobürste) must sound to natives of other languages and I also thought it might be interesting to start dicussions about "The German word of the day" or something like that. I have the idea of presenting you more or less useful words, maybe even phrases. Or if not useful, at least funny sounding Would you read it? | | toilet brush | | | | |

| | Oh, I would love to learn Spanish. Unfortunately the classes are quite expensive and I am not into learning much vocabulary like in school. I want such a course to be fun and when I pay much money for it, there is too much pressure for having fun :-( | | | |

| | I have to take 3 semesters of Spanish if I want to finish my degree. I would love to learn Spanish because that is the second most spoken language in the U.S. And maybe I could finally understand what some of the customers of Walmart are saying. | | | |

| | Your book is absolutely correct, sorry *g* Especially at work you should never ever start with the first name and "du". But there are some companies - if they have American roots, like GE - that use the "American system" with "du" and the first name. But only inside their own company, not when addressing customers. But I guess that's the only thing where you can make some faults. In general, if we know that you are not German, than it is ok to make faults in speaking. And behaviour is not very different than in the USA. The only really big difference was the tip in a restaurant because in Germany, we don't pay as much tip als elsewhere. Don't worry too much. And my discussion series will soon start, I am deciding on the first word right now :-) | | | |

| | I would, but I'm known to be a trifle "odd." Since English is actually a "Germanic" language, granted, heavily influenced by Norman French (as compared to other French because remember, the "Normans" were actually Norsemen that settled in the area now known as Normandy BECAUSE of them... ANYWAY, I've always wanted to learn some German, after all, I had a Great-Grandmother from Germany. | | | | | | |

| | I have never been to the usa nor germany but in my country, I'd really appreciate it if there are toilet brushes next to the toilet too! But such a case only happens in a few homes and private establishments in my country. If there was a toilet brush in a public bathroom, I don't think it would stay there for long! :)) I think it would be interesting for you to start a series on German words. It would be great to know a few German words. Who knows, maybe that'll be helpful if one myLotter would go to Germany for the first time! Thus, I would definitely read it! Although, why not consider writing a blog about it? Instead of a discussion. Just a thought though. hmm. Have a great day! | | | | | | |

| | A few years ago I started to learn Chinese. It was a free class sponsored by my employer and I did not take it too serious. It was about 5 months. Honestly, Chinese is soooo difficult for us Europeans. The grammar is strange and the pronunciation even more. For me, it was quite fun but for others it was a hard time because they intended to learn it for their job. | | | |
