Getting rid of a hacking cough..Any tips?  

Wow sorry to hear that, but I just got over a cold myself and I used tea what did was cook a hall cough drop into the tea while it was cooking I mixed it up and it was helping me breath, another thing was that I just chewed on some ice cubes and you will be surprised how ice breaks up a cold.

We were scheduled to be at my husbands Christmas party, and I had such an aweful cold, oh it was bad! My Uncle happened to call and he told me that when he was in the military an old woman gave him warm tap water, about six to eight ounces, with a teaspoon of honey mixed in. She told him to drink it fast, so I tried it and believe it or not, I was able to make it through the entire party without anyone knowing I was sick. I guess, unless you are allergic to honey it wouldn't hurt to try it.

Vitamin C! I am not joking. I take vitamins, and mainly a lot of vitamin c, every single day and I have not been sick in two years. Vitamin C helps your immune system. Any and all vitamins help your immune system. You want to boost your immune system as much as possible.

When you take your vitamin C make sure it is complete C with bioflavanoid and take garlic capsule too because garlic is not only good to lower your cholesterol it is also a natural anti bacteria and anti virus supplement. As for your cough try to buy some ginger tea. Ginger tea is very soothing to itchy throat. Get the powder type not tea bags and if you must sweetened it use honey instead of ginger. It was the hacking cough that got me to quit cigarettes altogether. When the rest of your symptoms are gone you may want to consider doing the same.

When I stopped smoking at the age of 39, I stopped having my usual annual cold until a few years ago near the age of 50. And of course the hacking cough that I had almost on a daily basis stopped to only several a year.

Maybe you should consider to give up smoking from now on for your hacking cough.somking is bad for your throat and lung and easily lead to hacking cough.In addition to this you can do sports regularly to boost your immune.Giving up somking and do sports can't be effective at once so you should persist.If your persist you will find that sick gets away father and father.May your get better soon.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I have had the same cold and cough for over a week. The cough is driving me nuts too. Unfortunately the cough is always the last to go and I think we just have to wait it out. I've tried Robitussin cough medicine which doesn't work for me. I do like Ricola cough drops for when I get one of those non-stop coughing fits.

You've had some very good suggestions so far...but I'll add a few of my own. Hopefully, you just about stopped smoking during this, because that certainly won't help your lungs kick this. You also should limit the amount of dairy products you consume. A licorice root tea, with honey mixed instead of sugar will help your breathing. Get yourself a really good Vitamin D ( preferably Vitamin D3) and take 2,000+ IU every day. If you feel you need to give your immune system a big boost- take a product like Cold-Eze, or something similar. The zinc will fire your immune system into overdrive
If you are having trouble sleeping because of the cough... have a cup of the tea listed above, then just before bed, take Vick's Vapor Rub, and apply it to the bottom of each foot (apply liberally) and put a pair of socks on. Believe it or not, it will suppress your cough and you'll get a very good night's sleep. Keep drinking lots of water, eat fresh veggies and fruit, cut back on the smoking and continue with your vitamins. Unless your cough becomes really bad, don't see your doctor, he'll only be sure to give you an antibiotic... go with what you've been doing, and cut back as much as you possibly can with your smoking. good you have to see if the cough has passed from 3 days barrier this can be difficult foryou now

so sorry to hear that you are not feeling really well. i have also cough and cold, i am not use to go to doctors if i can take it. i just take some more rest and drink a lot of water. that is how i do it. get well soon and have a nice day!
