To not take advantage of coupons and store "club" cards . . . |
| |
| I know two people who have backwards thinking about coupons and those club cards that are supposed to save you money. One person is opposed to coupons. I once clipped out a bunch of diaper coupons for his newborn, but he refused to take them. He thinks that using coupons make you look "cheap" - that using them makes you look like you don't have money. That's just crazy. I told him that manufacturers want you to use these coupons so you will buy their products!!!! The other person has some logic to his non usage of coupons and club cards. First, he says coupons are a ploy to get you to buy something you don't need. He says he likes his jam brand - so he's going to buy his jam brand and not get swayed by manufacturers coupons to buy another jam that he might get disappointed with. He refuses to get a store club card because he says he doesn't need anyone to know his shopping habits . . . he says they take your personal info when you get the card and each time you use it, they take note of what you're buying for marketing purposes or whatever. He'd rather not give his info than to save money. So do you think they're nuts or do they have a valid point? Heck, these days in this economy, I'm going to do whatever I can to save money . . . so I will going to take advantage of coupons and store club cards. How about you? | | | | | |

| | I see nothing wrong with coupons. I work in a store and yes we give out coupons in order to get people to come into our store to buy stuff. But is that a bad thing if you're already going to buy that item anyway??? Why not save some money while you are at it? As for the club cards. Yes I've heard that they log what you bought when swiped. Possibly. That it may be linked to your info or it may not and it's just logging what products sell better. Either way, I really don't care if some corporate big wig knows that I'm buying milk and eggs twice a month at the store by my house. I'm not buying parts to build a bomb here. I have nothing to hide. I'd rather save the money. | | | | | | |

| | Me too, I'd rather save the money! I forgot to mention that he thinks the markets sell our information too - and he isn't about to let anyone make money off of his personal information. All it could mean to me is junk mail and extra coupons being sent to our place . . . but hey, that's ok by me! | | | |

| | Oh yes I had a customer once who refused to give me her phone number on her check because she believed my store would sell her phone number to companies wanting to sell her stuff. Which we don't do. Sadly we couldn't accept her check without her number tho so yeah... | | | |

| | I can understand you needing to take her phone number at the store . . . there are a lot of scam artists out there, so really it's for her protection! But I have refused giving stores my phone number when they asked for it for no reason - and they didn't make a stink about it luckily . . . I don't know why they needed it - but I just didn't want any sales people calling me. | | | |

| | I think they are both entitled to their opinions. I do not use coupons, it is a pain in the butt and my time is more valuable then the time and energy it takes to hunt, clip, organize etc. I do however use club cards. | | | | | | |

| | Sure, I agree that they are entitled to their opinions - if anyone doesn't want to save some money, that's their deal. My mother in law also says she doesn't have time to clip coupons . . . yet, mother in law has time to go shopping for useless things to waste money on. They have a huge debt and live check to check - and they waste money on having 2 subscriptions to daily newspapers they barely touch (where there are valuable coupons they waste). She seems to think they don't have time to waste - but have money (that they don't have) to waste. | | | |

| | I stopped using coupons because it made me buy things I was not going t buy. So I can relate to this one. as for the store card I have one for the sale items for the week. I don't care what they do with my buying habits I am saving money. I think if they do anything it tells the store what the people are buying and what to restock. | | | | | | |

| | I only clip coupons for the things I will use. Once and a while I will try something new because it's on sale and I have a coupon for it . . . and I will end up liking it - though I may not buy it in the future all the time. So coupons have allowed me some room on a budget for trying out different things very cheaply. Yep, and I don't mind what info the store has on me either - I have store cards for all our local store chains! | | | |

| | i use coupons where i am going to save some money. if i can get a generic or store brand i won't use a coupon. i understand what you are stating about some people refuses coupons. i know of people too who refuse using coupons period. they think that using them is cheap. i disagree since i am a frugal person and want to save money as much as i can. i think they are good for alot of products which you would pay more for such as shampoo. why pay the full amount when you can get money off. | | | | | | |

| | Even though I am frugal, there are some generic or store brands that I have tried out and ended up not liking. So I'll stay away from those particular items even if I have to pay a little more. But there are some great items - and once and a while they'll go on sale or the store will have a coupon for it! Yah, shampoo can get kind of expensive as it is - shampoo coupons are awesome! | | | |

| | Yep, nothing wrong with saving money - coupons are literally like cash. I am an avid coupon clipper - so of course I'm going to use them whenever possible. Once and a while I'll get something that I "could" use on a whim - but most of the time it will be used. | | | |

| | I use the store swipe cards, I really don't know or care if i am part of there marketing information. It will show i seldom buy anything not on sale there. I seldom use coupons, i cut them out for my daughter in-law. We feel it helps to stretch a buck. | | | | | | |

| | How nice you cut out coupons for your daughter in law! It definitely stretches a buck . . . I love looking at the last part of the receipt where it says how much I saved - all those few cents count!! And I don't care about the marketing info either . . . just save me some bucks! | | | |

| | I vote nuts. It seems crazy to me to throw money away, which is what that is. With most club cards you could use a fake name even, there's very little risk of them using your personal info for evil. It just seems like a very silly and backwards way of thinking. I know one person who thinks along those lines and while it really is none of my concern I couldn't help but find it mildly annoying. They had one certain brand of (very expensive) orange juice that they bought and that was it - they would NOT deviate from that one brand no matter what. If it was on sale that was fine but even if a comparable brand was half price they stuck to the expensive stuff. And they always shopped at the most expensive place in town. They could have bought everything they regularly bought for a fraction of the price by going to Walmart but refused to travel the extra few blocks. Crazy! | | | | | | |

| | That is true, one could use a fake name if they really wanted to. One store sends me coupons and "points" for when I use the card - and that's more money saved there - so why not use it!! Yep, my friend is like your orange juice friend - he is exactly the same way. My example was about the jam . . . he won't deviate from his particular brand whatever it was. He says he likes it, he's happy with it - why should he get anything else. He will only go to one grocery store near his place oo - he says why should he waste his time shopping to different stores when the prices are going to be just a few cents different even if he were to save. And he won't use the club card there either. Yes, nuts!! | | | |

| | I save tons of money by using coupons and the club card. One store by me prints out the percentage saved at the end of the receipt - and I love to see high numbers for that!! I don't know how much I save in one year, but yes, I'm sure it has afforded us some extra money for more groceries anyway. | | | |

| | coupons and store club cards are a part of business marketing. If i have a coupon and i want to buy that thing i will do, sometimes if the coupon has a big sale i will think to use it. example : i buy a particular brand of diapers. Another brand sent me a -5 euro coupon, i bought that product and it is good. about the store club card i believe that they use statistics but i don't care. | | | | | | |

I love it when there is something on sale AND I can use a coupon for it . ... the more money that can be saved, the better! And diapers are not cheap - coupons are very helpful in buying diapers!! | | | |
