My dad always worked hard to farm though my sisters and I adviced him many times to stop farming, with his laboring he can have had his own one-floor building built, and also he can have bought his endowment insurance and my mum's over 2 years before,so my parents can gain more than 2000 yuan each month from their endowment insurance, they should live very well. But he didn't stop farming until 16th of this month!
That morning my dad went out to plough the cane roots, and at noon as he arrived home he went into the manure house to squat picking 2 eggs, then he felt so dizzy that he couldn't stand up steadily!
He was sent to the hospital of my town soon, but then in the evening we had to send him to the county hospital, and now he has to be in hospital for further curing though he can walk a little.
It turned out that he has been suffering high blood-pressure and light lacunar infarction! My doggy dad has to stop farming by now......

I’m so sorry to hear that Oldsix. I don’t think I have heard that term in my nursing career. So in other words, your dad had a brain stroke? Right? He’s having trouble walking now? I’m so sorry that your dad has worked himself so hard and that now he is in such a state. Hope he gets well soon and can do things he wants to do.

Hi,my friend!I think you are right. The doctor said my father felt dizzy all because of not enough blood for his head. Now he can walk, but not as steadily as usual,so we had to leave him in hospital for some days so that the doctors can do more better curing.Thank you and good luck!

Maybe that was a sigh that he should take it easy and not work so hard.
I hope he gets better soon.

I'm sorry, doggy? Do you mean dogged? I'm just a little confused. It sounds like you have a hard working father and are probably proud of him, which you should be. I hope this health scare makes him decide to quit working as much as he is. Because I know you want him around for many years to come, and not to work himself into the ground.

Yes,I hope he would have stopped farming, but it seemed that he never knew he would work himself into the ground!Maybe God arranged all:He was ill at home, and was sent to hospital in time,he can still walk now(He could walk a little from January,19th,now he's better),but his high blood-pressure never lets him farm again.

Your father just want the best for u and your sisters. IT's his love for the family that he's working so hard. Over the years, it's kinda become his passion and routine. If he doesn't farm for a day, he would feel uncomfotable. U should not stop him, instead slow him down over time. Farming is form of exercise and since he's getting on ages now, he should slow down, in order to get the best out of his farming. Mayb your father recover soon and be home soon too.

No one can avoid illneses all the life,so we have to get ready for it.But my dad was too confident to accept his children's advice to stop farming after having had endowment insurance, and he never pay attention to his diet, often eat sweets, instant noodles and so on,so I think he's "dogged"!

Hi oldsix,
Sorry to hear about your father, I think that he should stop farming. As you said, He's already 73 or something. Sometimes, old people tend to start to have some diseases because of their body which is slowly deteriorating. And since your father always work in the farm, that might caused him to have blood pressure, and also foods watch the foods he eats. I hope that you're father is going to be ok soon.

Hi,Tatzkie23!I agree with you.In fact we have worned him against diseaes since he's not young, but he's very confident and never on diet.I think the food that he had eaten caused his illness. But luckily he can still walk,of course we won't let him farm again because of his high blood-pressure.Thank you and good luck!

Hi...olds, have missed you here!
I do understand what you meant by "doggy"...as you meant dogged, he pursues something and never quits until he feels that it is accomplished. A tenacious, hard-working gentleman that is paying little or no attention to his health!
If all works out well, with his medical care...this may have been a blessing in disquise...a warning bell that something is/was wrong, and needed intervention!
Your biggest task, NOW will be to try and convince him to SLOW DOWN! You will have to watch him tenaciously...as he is so used to working "doggedly" that it will be hard to change his ways..and I truly wish you luck with this!
Some prayers winging your way..for his speedy/happy/healthy recovery!

I think your advice is the best.In fact there are three elders for my wife and me to support as well as my son and my nephew,I hope I'm not overloaded,of course my two younger sisters will help me a lot.
Yes,I have to learn a lot to take good care of myself so that I can have a healthy body to care my elders.
Thins afternoon my wife went to visit my dad,and she said my dad are better now, that's really a good news.Thank you so much and take care!

I am so thankful for the cares and advices from all of you and the other friends!
Yes,I know he has encountered too many unlucky things in my family but he never stopped fighting by working hard.Since he's not young and both of my parents have had endowment insurances,we advised him to stop farming too much, but he wouldn't accept what we said.
He's been in a western medical hospital for 13 days, from 19th he could walk a lttle without supporting, and yesterday we sent him to a Chinese medical hospital to do more care mainly by acupuncture and tuina-massage so that he can recover better.
Thank you for your great advices, and I'll do my best to serve him well.Good luck!

Hi Oldsix,
So sorry to hear about your dad but glad that he seems to be on the road to recovery. Hopefully your dad will take this for the wake-up call that it is. This could have been so much worse than it was. Hopefully he will see that it is important for him to pay attention to his health. As for his still working, well, the doctors will advice him on that I'm sure. I think it is great that he is still this active at 73. It's probably what keeps him going.

I hope my dad will give up farming for the medical care of this time, and hope he can live his retired life happily.Yes,if he had paid more attention to his health,it would not be so bad.I hope the doctors will give him more wornings to stop him from farming since he will not listen to my siblings.Have a nice day!

hi oldsix have not seen you around for awhile. My dad had the sense to retire after he had made his fortune during the second world war sellin honey during the time when sugar was being rationed. I am not sure what doggy means but my dad had one up on yo urs, my dad was the small town's only doctor. we owned a farmer but he mostly took care ot the town and county's ill people. Living on a farm was great during the depression as we grew all out own food even to meat and milk. so we never had a lot of money til the war but we never went
hungry either.

I do hope he is feeling much better soon. what a shocking thing to happen!
I expect he will take it easier now, but don't be surprised if he does not want to give up entirely. If he's been doing it all his life I imagine he'd wonder what to do with himself all day if he gave it up altogether!

Yes,since he's not ill often I got extremely shocked when my nephew told me that my dad was sick and dizzy.
During being in hopital when he felt a little well,he always thought of his canes(There are more than 20 tons of canes left that hasn't been harvested)! So we are going to rent out some of the fields, and keep two plots for him to grow corns or vegetables.I hope he'll recover soon and can get used to his new free life.Have a nice day!
