How true is "first love never dies?"

Why is it that you can never foget your first love..? I fell in love with a guy younger than me. I am now 25 and he is just 21, we had 4 years gap difference, my parents are against with our relationship, but though how much i tried to control my feelings for him still this day think of him everyday and every night. I know deep down we are soulmates.. But why is it the one you know is THE one, something or everything has to go wrong?? I don't understand.

We had it all.. We were best of friends who had this amazing connection that turned out to be the best relationship I have ever had.. But certain situations and circumstances lead us to different paths in our lives. I know he is someone I will never forget or stop loving..!! Has anyone ever experienced something like this.. Or have any comments on first love's???
