Does anyone else prefer pre-1973 Pink Floyd?  |

|  Although I love Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall I much prefer the music they made before 1973, especially the music they made with Syd Barrett. I also love albums like More, Ummagumma and Atom Heart Mother.

| |  You have the same opinion as me, or me as you to say. I like nearly all their records from the 70´s but i agree with you i also prefer the ones with compositions of Syd Barrett, but i must say specialy Ummagumma is my favourite though Gilmour is playing on that one. That sound what that group produces on that live record, that´s really Pink Floyd at it´s best for me. Sure still i´m a fan of records like Dark Side Of The Moon & other´s too. I remember hearing the first time to Astronomy Domine from Ummagumma, this song is still being my special favourite song from them. The good thing on the second LP is that you could hear the different influences from each musician to the Pink Floyd sound, great album. I´m not 100% sure but i think Roger Waters had put in the most influence of them in time. I hope you get my english right, i´m a german guy, greetings.
ps. What is your opinion on the Pink Floyd records from the 80´s?

| | Ummagumma is one of my favourite albums, the song Grantchester Meadows is my favourite Roger Waters song. The live album is great too. I've got some live bootlegs from the same era which are also great. The bootleg Smoking Blues is almost as good as the live Ummagumma album.
Another one of my favourite Pink Floyd albums is the More soundtrack, the song Cymbaline always cheers me up.
I do like their 80's music but it doesn't have the same impact on me as their earlier albums. Also in my opinion it wasn't really Pink Floyd. The Final Cut is basically a Roger Waters solo album and A Momentary Lapse Of Reason is a David Gilmour solo album.

| | Yes i agree with your view on the Floyds 80´s area, i couldn´t really get in to those ones. I would also count Meddle as a good album, the song Echoes is great and fills a whole record side, i prefer such long songs from groups.
I wished to see Pink Floyd in concert that time in the early 70´s. Do you know were to get live videos from that time??? | | | |

| | I don't think there's many live Pink Floyd videos from the 70's. The only one I know of is Live At Pompeii. I've got it on DVD and it's great. You should get it in any good record shop.

| |  I love the early Floyd stuff particularly Saucer Full of Secrets I've actually lost my copy of the CD which I'm really upset about. Their sound definitely changed after Barrett went but I still love their later stuff though I think their early stuff needs more recognition than it gets.
