Empty nest?

My husband and I are empty nesters, and like it very much.

no im not yet, i m not sure i will be able to handle it. lol.

Kids tend to go to universities within their own cities in Australia. Not all, of curse, but many if not most. My eldest will be 19 in March and is at Melbourne University. My twins have just turned 17 and will be doing yr 12 this year(school goes by the calander year here because it's now summer - so Summer vacation is over Christmas) So all three are still at home with mum and dad, and i like it that way! I dread the day one of them leaves.

we emptied the nest once, now two grand kids are in it

We have atleast 7 1/2 years to go. But our youngest two keep saying they are not going to leave. They plan on addin to the back of the house, so I'm afraid it may never be just me and my husband again.

My kids got married, but my son's stuff is still filling a room. He owns a house, I wish he would take it away. He married into grandkids for me, so I am un empty. I think I should fly the coop from this empty nest.

I thought it would be worse, but my husband and I are really enjoying it. We actually have some time to ourselves and have been doing some travelling.

I really loved having the family back home for the holidays, but it was nice to reclaim our home again after they were gone.

I've actually started to finish some crafting projects as well

yes its getting that way soon here. my son moved out when he got married, my daughter lives with her boyfriend, and my youngest is a senior and will be leaving in the fall for school. so, i'm slowly getting this sadness filling up inside of me. its funny, all of your mothering years you spend trying to get them grown up and responsible, and when it happens, you wish you had all those times back!

My son is hoping to go to university this Autumn and my daughter will probably go next year. It will be very quiet without my son and when my daughter goes,assuming she doesn't go to a university locally,we will be just two again.
I don't know how I will fill my days.
I think I might get a job to have someone to talk to.
It's odd becuase I am excited for my son and daughter and want them to have a full life but a bit sad at the same time to think it will be an ending of sorts.

I could just imagine how lonely it could be? My two kids are both grown ups now (ages 24 and 21), both professionals, but are staying with us. My husband works out of town, and I am left with my two kids at home. I am sure a few years from now, we will be in the same boat as you are, as soon as our kids leave us to marry. I even jokingly tell my son that he could build a house near ours so we get to see each other often, and not be entirely an empty nest. Personally, I am preparing for that dreaded day. No, it's not a welcome stage, but we should prepare for it nevertheless. Thanks for that sharing. . . I'll remember it when the time comes. .
