I am having a problem with the people building the house next door. HELP |
|
Since they have been building the house next door my water bill has gone from $36 a month to $108 a month. I was just in the kitchen washing dishes and seen the builders come over with buckets (mine that have gone missing) and fill them at my water tap. They ran the water lines for that house from my water meter and across my front yard. Now when I go out to check my mail I sink in the mud (it stays muddy). How do i nicely tell the builders they have caused my water bill to go up like that and they need to fix it? Please Help!!!

3. not4me (1315) | 4 years ago | They should be working with a permit. Call the police as this is a violation of the permit plus it is as good as theft since it costs money. Let the police handle it.

4. mfrancq (1006) | 4 years ago | I had this situation happen to me, however I was not a homeowner...I was renting. This happened in some new duplexes that were in the middle of being built. We were the first to move in and everything was great, until I too saw the buckets and heard water running from my building. Needless to say my bill was outrageous. The next time I saw them coming to my house with those buckets, I kindly went outside and explained to them about my bill and how I was the one having to pay for that. They were very nice to me about it and stopped. I also called the LandLord and explained the situation to them. Just remember to keep your cool and it will work out okay. If you loose it with them, they won't care and they will keep doing it...trust me.

prasad1961 (5115) | 4 years ago | Yes I agree, she has to demand for the water charges they used. Besides she may demand extra for causing her water bill escalating to newer & higher slab. Due to this next month she may receive extra slab bill. Keep it fair deal, If it necessary make it written so that it will be helpful in future also.

5. floramwaters (793) | 4 years ago | I would go to who ever is running the site. The boss. Take him the bill and show him how much your bill has gone up and if they would like to keep using your water that they have to pay for it. and if they do not pay for it you will go over there head and and talk to the owner of the company. And may even get the law involved. If you are not going to be home you can even turn off the main water volve which is located by your water heater.

6. sedel1027 (12402) | 4 years ago | You should go over to the site and look at the building permit. On the permit there is a permit number and a phone number that you can call if they are in violation of their permit. Take both numbers down and call immediately.

8. Jshean20 (8020) | 4 years ago | My parents recently built a house and were using the neighbours water and hydro, they didn't even have to be asked to pay for it they just automatically went over with some money, it's just the decent thing to do. I would just simply go over there and be polite about it and explain the billing situation..

ajithlal (3254) | 4 years ago | What I would suggest is you should take your previous bills and your current bill and you should talk to them that you are having high water bills. You should talk to them in a nice way. Most time I think when people tell say in nice way without aggresiviness or shouting most people understands. Try to make some solution like either making them pay the extra waterbill or ask them to arrange for alternate for water. Best of luck

9. nobodyspecial (933) | 4 years ago | Nicely? Excuse me but reputable builders would have asked permission and offered to pay the difference.
Tell them that 1. your buckets weren't available for their use. 2. They can either cease using your water or they can pay for it. 3. Tell them that you expect your yard to be returned to the state it was in before they started the project. 4. Tell them you expect to have at least a plank walkway placed across your yard for both your use and theirs if they comply with the first three items. And lastly, if they do not comply file a small claim against them.
What they are doing exceeds the bound of ethical business practices. As a home owner you have rights, exercise them.
