Have you ever picked up a hitchhiker? |
|
My ex-boyfriend did once when we were together. We took him to another town and dropped him off. He told us that he wanted to go to this restaurant just off the interstate and after we got there, he decided that wasn't the right place. We could not get him to get out of the car. I was scared to death. My boyfriend finally told him we were going home and it was time to get out or he would take him to the police station and let them get him out. I was never so glad for someone to get out of my car. Two days later, we got the paper and seen where on that day, the cops were looking for a man that kind of fit his description for robbing someplace. We wondered if it was the same guy, if so we helped him in his escape. I yelled about it for days. We called and told the police about it also. Don't know if they ever found him.

5. 4MYGIRLS (5062) | 4 years ago | i haven't picked up a hitch hiker but i did pick up this kid whose car broke down. i started to take him to the gas station but he told me his battery maybe dead so i went to my house and got my husband and we gave him a jump and followed him to make sure he got home okay. my husband was mad at me but i didn't care. the guy was about 16 and the gas station would have been a 6 mile walk for him down the highway in the dark.

4MYGIRLS (5062) | 4 years ago | i was in an uncomfortable situation once but i was the one who broke down. i just got off work it was midnight and my car did not want to drive over 35 mph. so i decided to pull over. i parked my car at a church and started walking. a car pulled over and asked me if i wanted a ride. oh i should mention that a cop passed me up without even stopping, boy he was a lot of help. but anyway it was a couple who offered me the ride. at first i told them it was okay i was just going to walk to my sister in laws house. they insisted i get in. i was a little relieved when they had to move their stack of bibles to make room for me. they were on their way home from a bible study.

6. fotychic (168) | 4 years ago | No, I have never picked up a hitchhiker, or ever accepted a ride from anyone. I am too scared to do something like that. My dad has told me that when he was young, though (in the sixties), he used to hitchhike everywhere. It was common, and mostly safe. My husband and I have, however, stopped and helped people who are on the side of the road. He helped some guy and his wife change a tire, and I have let people use my cell phone. I don't stop though, when he is not with me. I don't ever want to end up in the paper myself! Too often, you hear of people who tried to do something nice, and end up paying for it.

9. xxclairexxj (529) | 4 years ago | I never have, I am female and just don't want to take that risk. I know most of them are probably perfectly normal, safe people but I wouldn't want to put myself in a situation where something bad could happen. It would be too easy. I do feel bad sometimes because I know people who sometimes hitchhike and they say they stand for ages in the cold sometimes waiting for a lift. After hearing your experience I think I was right to make the choice about not picking them up. Ever!

10. cowgirl2701 (840) | 4 years ago | Back in the 60's and 70's people did hitch hike alot. It was much safer then to pick someone up. Now days I will call the police if I see someone broke down. I don't want them standing there. We did stop for a family that was broke down. They had small kids. We took them somewhere because of the kids. They were broke down in a spot that we were afraid someone would come around the corner and hit them. Didn't want that to happen.
