Breat milk or formula?

I believe that breast milk is best for those who can. I am one of the unfortunate few who didn't get any milk no matter how hard I tried. It shattered me for my first son, but I had come to terms with it when I had my twins. Cons of bottle feeding - sterilising bottles and teats - I boiled everything because I worried that the sterilising solution might harm my babies' internal organs, after all it's belach! You have to boil the water to prepare it - and one ofmy twins was allergic to the cow's milk formula so they were on different formulas! You have to heat the bottle of milk before giving it to the baby. The cost, especially with twins is quite high. Formula fed babies are more likelt to be constipated than breast fed.

Pros of bottle feeding - anyone can feed your baby. I can't think of anything else!

Pros of breastfeeding - the supply is always ready and no messy setting up, sterilising and measuring, etc. The milk is the perfect temperature every time. Baby receives the mother's antibodies which helps baby fight off infections. It's free!!

Cons of breastfeeding - only thing I can htnk of is that no one else can feed your baby so it might be inconvenient.

My kids were both breast fed and I agree with the above posters that it does have many benefits. It is cheaper, always ready, better for the baby. I was personally uncomfortable breastfeeding in public, so I would pump breast milk and feed them from a bottle. I also did this when I needed to have some one else watch the baby. When my kids were around 7 months old they swithched to formula and I didn't notice much of a difference.

A friend of mine recently had a baby and couldn't breastfeed. Her Dr put her on some medication to help her produce enough milk, but the cost of the medication ended up being quite a bit more than formula.

The only benefit to formula over breast feeding that I can think of is that you know exactly how much your baby is getting.
