I don't think it's important. But family and friends usually are the ones that want to have one and plan it. It's a time for family and friends to get together and celebrate the baby's coming....Usually pregnant women register at a store and pick things they want for the baby...and that's when they shower the baby with gifts...I don't think it's important but im sure some women do think it is...It's a good time to celebrate the baby before it's born.....

Its not majorly important, but its a good idea...you get stuff for your baby and everything is expensive $$$ anymore. But yeah usually its the friends and/or family that throws it for them..so you can't lose:)

I think it is just a way to get stuff for the baby in a somewhat organized fashion. I had a baby shower for my first baby but never had any for my last 2. I don't think they are necessary and I don't plan them myself. I had a friend who insisted I had one the first time so I told her to plan it.

It helps a woman with the expence of the child whitch is pretty high .The first baby is higher because they don't have the larger things like a crib and other furnature or hand me down cloths .It is also a celibration of new life and can help if the mother is depressed .
