Anyone ever passed a kidney stone before?

I have almost, I have a 14 millimeter kidney stone in my right kidney, it is too big to pass. Though I have started taking a homeopathic cure for it and it seems to be working (know on wood) I found out about the stone in April '06 when it blocked the kidney and caused it to shut down on me. After two trips to the hospital via ambulance in 5 days they found the stone and put a shunt in my kidney. They took it out a month later but to my certain knowledge 14 mm is too big to pass and I wouldn't want to but I have not had trouble with the kidney since November. (knock wood again!)

see mine shut down my kidney by blocking it, I had to get a shunt put in, but thankfully I didn't have to pass it. I don't know if it is still in there or if the homeopathic remedy I am taking is working yet.

Wow - my kidney didn't shut down but it was blocked enough that I had terrible nausea! The only home remedy for my type of stone is to completely eliminate all animal protein including meat and dairy! I tried that for a while and it helped but I really missed yummy food! So now I've found a good middle ground where I don't get them once a month like I did before. I've passed over 100 before I altered my diet. Now I've had 2 in the past 8 months!

A couple of years ago (well, actually almost 5 years) I had one. I didn't have any problems passing it but it sure made me sick when I had it.

Thanks for your response. You were lucky and I'll tell you a little story why; My exboyfriend Bill has gotten kidney stones for years. Well the last one lodged in his urethra halfway out and plugged him right up. He ended up having to have surgery to remove it from there. H espent a couple months in the hospital.

Oh gawd ya - there is no way a stone that big would pass through your ureter and urethra! I have chronic cystine kidney stones and I get operated on every time one gets about 6mm as that is my own body's limit lol. I've had 4 ureteroscopic surgeries including lithotripsy and stent placements since 2005.
In fact I can feel a stone now on my left flank. Ugh! I haven't had one in months either. I was doing so well! Anyway I'm sorry to hear about your stone! That is huge! Do you know which type of stones you have?
