Life can kick you in the butt and if you end up without health insurance what are the options for a single person, or a family? I once heard of a Christian organization that families sign on to and then when one of the the participatns has a bill, the group gets together somehow and the money is raised. I am sure that is not accurate however the group exists and I would wish to find them.

we are in the UK as you know but we have our healthcare with CICA - Combined Insurance of America - it's very reasonable, don't know if you can get them in America - probably not. Hope this helps.

There's something in the U.S. called the Modest Needs Foundation and they can help with bills when people are in need of a little help to get back on track with their finances.

ModestNeed.org - a great association that gives help when they can and the appropriate documentation is forwarded to them
Thanks much, I did go to them last year when we had an outpatient emergency room bill we needed help with. They were great. Fortunatly we had all the copies of the things they needed. Found out about it from Care2 and am so glad you mentioned here on this discussion.
