I don't know the exact date but they wrote it in 1966 and it reached number one on December 10,1966

Brian Wilsons Mother used to always tell him that some people just give off good vibrations.Which is why dogs bark at some people and not at others. The song was recorded over a two month period in 1966 with about 70 hours of tape is why there are so many different versions of the tape.The song describes a really good acid trip but doesn't mention drugs in the song so it was played big time by the radio stations.Wilson admitted he was almost constantly high on acid when the song was done. Incidentally the song was recorded with Wilson and session musician's not with his fellow beach boys. One very interesting fact about the song is the fact that Glen Campbell played lead guitar on the song. Almost no one knows this. The Beach Boys are Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson , Dennis Wilson , Mike Love and Al Jardine. The Wilson's are brothers , Mike Love is their cousin and Al Jardine was one of Mike Wilson's classmates. The Beach Boys even recorded a song written by Charles Manson before he went on his murder spree. It was called , Learn Not To Love. Dennis Wilson was Friends with Manson in 1968 and even supported Manson and his group before becoming afraid of Mansons dark side. Dennis Wilson Drowned in 1983 while swimming near his boat. And U.S. President Ronald Regan gave special permission so he could be buried at sea.They became the first American Rock Band when they were invited and played in Czechoslovakia in 1968. Carl Wilson died of Lung Cancer in 1998. Their most played song ever on American Radio was Surfin' USA. After Dennis Wilsons death in 1983 a Ohio Radio Station set a new world record for playing Surfin' USA for 7 straight days.
