Do you know what is metabolism and how important it is?
Different people has different rate of metabolism. People with faster metabolism gets to burn off fat and calories faster where the people with slower metabolism, sad to say have to work extra harder just to keep fit.
Below is an article I found on how to speed up your metabolism, written by WLR Dietitian, Juliette Kellow BSc SRD.
1. Get active - it’s a sure-fire way to increase the amount of muscle you have, which in turn will speed up your metabolism. Do a mixture of aerobic and resistance training for best results. And don’t forget to be more active in your daily life too.
2. Eat little and often - there’s evidence that eating small, regular meals throughout the day, rather than one or two large meals, may help to keep your metabolism ticking over. Surprisingly, around 10 percent of the calories we use each day go on digesting and absorbing food - so the more times you eat, the greater this effect is likely to be.
3. Eat plenty of protein-rich foods - research shows that around 25 percent of calories in a protein-rich meal may be burnt off. But make sure you choose low-fat protein foods such as lean meat, skinless chicken and low-fat dairy products.
4. Spice up meals - it’s not an old wives tale after all! Spices like chilli are thought to raise metabolism by up to 50 percent for up to three hours after eating, due to increasing your heart rate. But before putting the local Indian takeaway on speed dial, work out which curries have the lowest calorie and fat content.
5. Swap you daily cuppa for green tea - there’s evidence that it contains antioxidants that speed up metabolism.
6. Try a CLA supplement - more extensive studies need to be carried out before any definite conclusions can be drawn, but research has shown that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) might increase muscle and therefore boost metabolism.
7. Chill out - research shows that being very cold can increase metabolism by up to 20 percent.
8. Have a sauna - being very hot is also thought to boost metabolism by about 20 percent (but check you don’t have any underlying medical problems that mean you shouldn’t go in saunas or steam rooms).

The best way to speed metabolism, is to eat breakfast! During sleep, the metabolism is at it's lowest rate (basal). If you skip breakfast, your body thinks you are starving, and slows down your metabolism! If you skip breakfast and work out, your body will protect itself by laying down fat! So, if you want to speed your metabolism, eat a breakfast of fresh fruit and a complex carbohydrate!

indeed, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.unfortunately, it is often taken for granted, with people running around late for their offices.

in my experience, however, eating a hearty breakfast makes me feel so full that it makes me feel lazy at times. nevertheless, i try not to skip breakfast because i know that this speeds up my metabolism.

sorry for that link!i am not aware of that rule.i think advertising(many site promotes it)will help but i found that it is against rules......sorry i will never repeat that again

At rest, reclining to watch TV, read, you burn 68 calories per hour. Sleeping you burn 61.

Sitting erect to type, read, etc, you will burn aprox 72 calories per hour.

Walking 1 mile in 20 minutes will burn 100 calories...walking 1 mile in less time will burn more per minute.

Riding a bike will increase the calorie burn to 650 per hour if you maintain a speed of 19 mph.

Eating small portions several times per day allows the body not only not feel hungry, but also causes the body to not store calories.

Exercise is a double plus for metabolism increase. You burn the calories while exercising and your heart rate and rate of breating is higher for a time after the exercise is finished.

Heat and cold both increase the calorie burn because calories translate to heat in the cold, and in the heat they translate into cooling.

There is a lot of information online on this subject if one takes the time to look farther than the first page that comes up in a search.

Exercise is a MUST for people who are diabetic. Merely cutting down on starches and sugar is NOT enough... we must work our muscles so that the stored sugar (glucose) in the cells is used up.
The ideal would be exercise morning and evening, after a light meal.

Those 8 ways to speed up metabolism are very good, and I think the most important one is spreading out your meals into smaller ones throughout the day. Some people think that by not eating at all that this will help with fat loss and weight loss. This is not always the case, and it may actually slow down the weight loss process. Eat plenty of small healthy meals to keep you satisfied throughout the day, and drink your water!!

Yes, everyone should keep hydrated, especially in colder weather, when people tend to drink less. However, you can drink too much water, which is also not healthy.

that was very informative...i was quite healthy previously ...but i went on a crash diet for a month and in the process of doing so my metabolism went completely haywire...n now i am repenting n paying for it...i want to get back to my normal metabolism but somehow nothing seems to be falling in place...
