What do you think about the new adoption guidelines that China is now setting? email this discussion to a friend?

I just heard on the news today that China is making their adoption standards much stricter. Some of the restrictions for adopting a child from China will now exclude anyone: who is overweight, not married,or over the age of 50. What do you think about this?

wow that makes it a lot harder i think to adopt a baby from china then! especially for americans! I know a lot of single people like to adopt and pretty much half of american is somewhat overweight. I don't think this is right. Chinese children deserve to be adopted by whomever will love them! is this not discrimination?

I think that you're right about how few people will actually be qualiied to adopt now-especially from America (yep-we do have really high overweight rates lately) I don;t think they consider it discrimination but to me it seems like the standards are filled with that type of bias

They are trying to improve their civil rights image, probably. The restrictions may be somewhat acceptable, but some of this sounds a bit too far out. Overweight is not something that I feel should be considered. However, a single parent should be examined closely. Age is a good factor to consider. Who would want to be a teenager with a parent who is 65 years old?

That sounds about right. It does sound far out but they had it all over the news yesterday and someone said that China was somewhat moderate in their adoption standards and that there were stricter countries
