I have been chosing my best responses  

I tend to mark the best response based on whether it has added value to the discussion and brought information/knowledge/insights that i hadn't thought of.

I tend to do what you did. You never know when you are going to get a new responce that may be better that the ones you have got, so I normally leave the discussions untill they have not had a responce for some time. Only then can I select fairly what the best responce was. This makes it an on going process, as I am always making new discussions, So many (most) of my discussions I have not selected 'best responce' YET.

sometimes, when the discussion have more than 100 responses, i have to admit that it's rather hard to mark the best responses...as so many of them are good!! so i will choose those that fit to the discussions and the member do put in more effort to share his/her stories. i usually mark it after 1-2 weeks. I close my eyes, take a pencil, move the pencil over my computer screen and jab it somewhere. Then when I open my eyes, wherever the pencil has landed is the user that I pick for best response.

No, seriously I do the same as the others. I wait a while and then select what I think is the best response judging by the value of the post and relevance to the topic. I always rate the posters.

well my juding ceteria is i atleast wait for 30 reply to discussion that i had started , then i give best response according to quality reply and effective anwsers , well its mylot rule that we cant give best to most users , so i award remaining of them by marking + to their reply !

i used to select a best answer which briefly describes my query. I'm not concentrating on the increased length of discussions as i'm not here to make silly and more discussions. just I need genuine and factable answers to my discussions.

Yes, I do pick "best response." However, I don't wait weeks. I am always going back to my posts daily. I will give sereral +'s out, as there are times when a lot of people respond to the post and they are good. I look to see if the answer is responded correctly, (fiting the topic) and if it is helpful.

The name says everything, I select the best response of all I have in my discussions. Will gonna check your others to keep them alive and maybe I´ll earn a BR.

I've only selected a few people so far, for "best response" in my discussions. I base my response on which post is most helpful to myself or to others, most understandable (I can understand what they're saying), and if something about it touched me moreso than the other responses did. :)
