Would you air your relationship laundry on a television show? |

| I don't know how many of you have seen the Showtime program "Sexual Healing". Each episode, Dr Laura Berman (who is a sex educator and therapist) works with different couples who are having serious (sexual) problems in their relationships. http://www.sho.com/site/sexualhealing/home.do "Each hour-long episode will expose the diverse and revealing sexual and relationship problems that face many couples, along with the innovative therapeutic activities used to help them." The couples set up cameras in their hotel room, some being infrared cameras, so that you can see into their bedrooms as they experience their "healing". You see anger, hurt, vulnerability, love, and more. I wonder, if you would allow yourself to be filmed in this way, for all the world to see? | | | | | |

| | I don't think I would want the world knowing what goes on in the bedroom.It is a private matter between my spouse and I. | | | | | | |

| | I agree with that, my bedroom is not large enough for all the world to gather in. | | | |

| | I think it would be embarrassing when the show came out, and people you knew saw that you were having problems in the bedroom.. and then saw you trying to "work them out". LOL | | | |

| | IMO it's cheap and demeaning of ones relationship. I understand the need for advice or a shoulder from someone close to you, but cameras in your house for strangers to watch, it's stupid in my opinion. Seems these are people looking for 15 minutes of fame, and using their marriage/relationship to get it. Sick! | | | | | | |

| | Yes.. anything for their 15 minutes of fame. I wonder if they get anything out of it? I mean, aside from some free(?) counseling, and a free hotel stay? Some of these couples don't even work out in the end anyway. | | | |

| | I have heard of the dr you mention but I think she was on another programme I saw. I have not seen the programme you mention. where is it shown? I am not sure I would want to be filmed in this way. As I work with children I would feel akward about someone seeing me on tv in such a programme. | | | | | | |

| | This particular show aired on Showtime Television (cable TV), during summer/fall, I think it was. It was interesting to see other people's problems, in the sense that 1.) it almost always makes you feel better about your own situation; and 2.) you learn how maybe you should be dealing with yourself and with your partner when you're having similar problems. However, you get to see a very intimate side of strangers, including in the bedroom. And I'm not sure I could be that raw in front of the camera. | | | |

| | I guess I read the discussion a little too fast and did not see that it was Dr. Laura Berman. I read it as Dr. Laura no wonder I had the impression it was a Jerry Springer type show. | | | |

| | Are you kidding? I wouldn't want to see ME on tv doing that. I just think there are parts of a couple's relationship that are meant to be private. Just between them. That's one of the special things about being in a relationship -- the intimacy. However, if others want to do it, that's their business. Whatever floats their boat. | | | | | | |

| | While I do not see a problem getting help from a therapist I could not even imagine having it out so to speak in front of others. To me that sounds like Jerry Springer at home but without Steve. I would sure not sign up for that. | | | | | | |

| | Although I could not. I think that it is good that we have them because sometimes it's nice to know that we are not alone with our problems. Although some shows go way to far and it seems fake. | | | | | | |

| | I think this show tries to be tasteful. And you don't just see "beautiful" couples on here.. so you might see people getting real, that you might not necessarily care to see in that situation. But because you aren't seeing "perfect" people - or perfect couples - you get to see real relationships, with real problems. And a lot of those problems I think many people can relate to- husbands who want sex more than the wife, or vice versa. A wife who can't perform because she had a trauma earlier in her life. A husband who treats his wife with no respect because of his relationship with his father or mother growing up, etc.. the doctor gets to the root of the issues, to figure out how and why people are the way they are, sot hey can change. I think in that respect, the show is neat. I just wonder if these people can really forget that they are being filmed? And how they deal with others seeing this after the fact? | | | |
