Why are most horror films lately about twisted families in run down villages?

Agree totally, wouldn't it be nice to see a high rise with a vampire problem? Or even rich travelers that have to fight for themselves instead of body guards or butlers to run interference. Or maybe even werewolves that have a farm and live normal sort of lives. Not harming anyone until a couple of robbers picks on their farm. Why not also a virus that exists in all vegetables and only harms when politicians argue? Just some thoughts and of course that is where a lot of movies originate.

I think some of the reason might be that back woods people scare the average person. Because have a empty look to their eyes you never know what they are thinking. So we find it scary. Besides most city people find hillbillies less than trusting.

It just happens to be the fad of the times. It could have been triggered by a news item or a story somebody told and was overheard by a scriptwriter and that's how it all started.
