I went out to dinner last night and the waitress was lousy: | | We sat there waiting for her to wait on us, and she wasn't busy. She was talking to her friend at the counter. Finally I went over and asked if she could please wait on us; after about 5 minutes she did come over; but the whole night she did the same thing; kept talking to this person at the counter and ignored us. When we wanted more coffee; we had to go get her and she was rude to us. She said "You want more coffee again" we only had 1 cup. Waitresses like this do you tip or just leave. I did leave a tip; but I did not enjoy myself at all.

It makes no sense to sit in a place where you can see the service is going to be lousy. You can still call back and file a complaint if you have the time and date that you were there. That way it will still bite her in the butt after she has had time to feel like she pulled it off!

| | 2. visitorinvasion (3607) | 4 years ago | Ah, I feel your pain. We went out to eat last night too, at a buffet place no less. We get back to the table with our dinners and there are drinks but no silverware. (Can you believe their servers were sitting right in the middle of the dining room rolling silverware?? yet none on a seated table??) My husband eventually got up and got us silverware. We went back for salads and I covered my steak (silver ON the plate) with an open napkin. We get back to the table and it's gone. We finally saw a server and she offered to order me a new steak, and it was perfect. It just got me that a server wouldn't know not to take a covered plate. Since she apologized and made me not have to stand in line for a new steak, she still got her 3 bucks (I know, but there were only 2 of us and we didn't run her*ss off). For rudeness, like in your case, she's lucky you didn't complain to the management. I served for 13 years. Servers are not to be rude, not if they want a tip. That was kind of you to leave a tip anyway. I've been known to leave a dollar with a crappy note on it, like "it could have been a bigger tip, but we thought since you were so blatently rude that you wouldn't want our money, but we didn't have anything else to write on." Like I said, I served forever almost, and I believed it to be bad kharma to stiff a service person when service was my bread and butter.

| | 4. emeraldisle (8978) | 4 years ago | I wouldn't have left her a tip. I would have made sure to let the manager or owner know about the situation. I might have given a tip to the cook, trust me that irritates the waitress when they get the tip directly from you because then it points out to them they did something wrong.
You shouldn't have to experience such treatment. She was hired to be a waitress. If she can't do the job correctly she shouldn't be there.

| | 5. brokentia (7815) | 4 years ago | Honestly, if that has happened to me and she was rude to me. I would not have left a tip. I would have also considered talking to her manager. I have worked in management situation and have appreciated it when a guest would tell me when someone was not doing their job! Managers can not be everywhere and sometimes...if the manager cares...would like the situation pointed out to ensure this does not happen again in the future with you or other guests. So, no, I would not have left a tip. Please tell me your tip was a penny or just a dollar to get the point across to her.

We've had some pretty bad service and always let management know promptly. As for tipping we are generous people, and itis because I used to wait tables a long time ago. We start out at 20% and use a deduction system when service is not fast, incorrect, or just plain horrible.
