New music after 30 years |
|
Just bought Yusuf Islam's(AKA Cat Stevens)new cd and I am totally impressed. I was a teenager back in the 70's when "Tea For The Tillerman" was released at that is my all time favorite Cat Stevens music. Now after listening to this new one I must confess that I like this one just as much as Tea for the Tillerman. What are your thoughts on his newest creation???

| 2. diamonte (6) | 3 years ago | I didn't know he had a new album out. Yesterday my husband and I bought a compilation of Cat Stevens hits. We were teenagers too back in the 70's. It was a long time since we had heard any of these old songs, brought back lots of memories. I'll look out for the new one. Funny thing we were both wondering if he had done anything recently. He must be getting on a bit now...well, I guess we all are!:)

cheapbooks4u (332) | 3 years ago | Well I hope you find it. Unfortunately the new stuff is not getting any airplay on the radio stations. I hope that has nothing to do with his faith, but most likely it is.

| 3. lbtx53 (66) | 3 years ago | I, too, was a teenager in the very early '70's and loved Cat Stevens. I don't listen to that kind of music anymore but really liked it then and he was absolutely one of my favorites along with James Taylor, Bill Withers, Carol King and, I'm almost reluctant say, Gilbert O'Sullivan. I agree that the lack of airplay now is most likely due to his religion and name change.

cheapbooks4u (332) | 3 years ago | Wow...great choice of music....I still listen to that type of music even though I am now much older and wiser. My son who is 10 yrs.old is actually starting to really like my old collection of 70's music. I am happily passing it on and sharing it with him. He doesn't care at all for the kind of music coming out this days and I thank God for that.

| lbtx53 (66) | 3 years ago | That's great that your son enjoys the music you like. My daughter is now 35yr.old (I was a teen mother) and since I listened to that music while she was a very young toddler I think it was imprinted in her mind. Some of her favorite artists now are Carol King, James Taylor and Paul Simon. And her favorite songs by these artists are the same ones that were my favorites then. We really do leave very strong impressions on our children.

cheapbooks4u (332) | 3 years ago | Yes we do. That is why it is very important for parents to watch every little thing that they do or say. Like the famous commercial of the late 70's and early 80's once said, "I learnt it from watching you Dad"

4. Hart57 (235) | 3 years ago | I had no idea he was still making music. I too listened to him in the 70's, and when I hear his music today, I am flooded with wonderful memories from that era. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on his latest work. I am anxious to hear it.

| 5. turquiseguy (8) | 3 years ago | I was not born when cat stevens made his debut, in the 70s, but i met his music a couple of years ago and thereafter i keep listening to his songs and like very much his style of singing. His last album is fantastic, i bought it the day it hit the shells. And this album is awesome, every song in it gives me a feeling of total relief and joy. Good job Yusuf...

6. novataylor (2142) | 2 years ago | My husband bought this CD for me when it was released and I absolutely love it. To hear his voice again (his new voice) is a delight that I didn't think would ever happen again. His son is the one who started him up again. The son brought him his guitar and asked him about it. And something in that action touched him - and ended up bringing us a new album. I have listened to Yusuf since he was so very young, had a moon and star on his head, and was followed by a moonshadow. I've never stopped listening to his music - if that's being stuck in the past then let me stay stuck. And now, something new!! What a gift! Incidentally, I found the soundtrack from Harold and Maude through e-bay, a site called auralexploits. I will be ordering a copy tomorrow. I've been looking for this album forever, and I'm finally going to get it. And it's vinyl! There aren't that many copies available, so I'd suggest you order asap. You know, when you re-visit his old music, then listen to his new music, I think you'll find little change in the underlying themes of love, goodness, and spirituality. He is who he's always been. And I'm so glad he's back.
