| Do you think the subsidized education is of poorer quality? | | | | I have two degrees from Indiana University, in the USA. Indiana University is a subsidized university, in other words, it is a state university, not a private or church school. I am pleased that I attended IU and have two degrees from there. I did not have to put up with private school traditions or church school dogma to get my education. I could choose what I wanted to take. Of course, I had some required courses that I will never use. Still, I don't resent that too much. Subsidized or public education is much cheaper than private or church schools. I suspect that there is more academic honesty in public schools, too. Did you attend a private or church college? If so, how do you feel about it? | | | | | | | | | | Wanna Teach Gifted Kids? | | In India the Government schools are largely of a lower quality although its not a general rule. If it werent for them though, education would never be a priority in many villages here. Even private schools have a wide range of quality and its best to enquire well about a school before putting your children in one. | | | | | | | | | | Wanna Teach Gifted Kids? | | I went to IU in the 1980s. I never attended any other form of higher education, so I can't compare. However, the experience was not without value. Required classes are a reality of higher education. Everybody has to put in four years. Might be more valuable if you're studying to be an engineer or lawyer, but the four year plan has to apply to everyone. I've had plenty of classes that didn't give me a great deal, but if you're smart you'll give yourself a variety of classes to give you a strong base. 20 years later, I value my college experience. It was mostly for the friends and the environment but I can't say I wish I hadn't gone. For those considering college, I think four years in the Army might give you as much. The US army will let you retire in 20 years on half salary, which is a pretty sweet deal compared to the office life most of us land in after college! | | | | | | | | | | distance education Earn a college degree online.
