which is the best love story?

The 2nd major South Indian historical. Set in the year 1083 A.D. it tells of the poet Kambar (Sama) who wrote the 'Kambaramayana' in Tamil at Karikala Chola's court. The film opens with the victorious return of Kulothunga Chola to the city of Woriur. There is a love story between the poet's son, Ambikapathy (Bhagavathar) and the Princess Amaravathy (Santhanalakshmi). However, class distinctions are maintained as the young lover fails the test of will imposed by the king as a precondition for the marriage.

One of Romania's biggest writers is Mircea Eliade ( you may have heard of him as the author of a work called "The history of religions". The biggest part of his life he spend it outside the country (he died in Chicago USA in 1986). But at the middle of his life he went to study at the University of Calcutta, India after he read the works of one of India's greatest writers Surendranath Dasgupta (he had studied before in Romania, France and Italy). "Maytreyi" is the name of one of his books. There is a big argument around the spelling of the word Maytreyi. Many write it like I did (including here in Romania) but many write it Maitreyi, or Maytrei... and there are endless possibilities. I have chosen this form because as I said before it's most common, and I like the part May as in the month of may:)).

The book is written as a jurnal where an european engeneerer tells the story of his voyage in India. He went there to work on a platform where he becomes friend with his boss... a very open-minded person in India where they have very strict rules and protocoles. He becomes friend with an european guy (often ignored there outside his work). He introduces the european to his family, to his wife and his 2 daughters (also something that people there don't do). They spend a lot of afternoons together so they become close friends both with the indian and his wife, and eventually he invites the european to move in and live in his house. And he does. There the indian's older girl, Maytreyi starts to seduce him... in an oriental, sentimenatl, erotical and poetical way. He struggles with his feelings but evenatually it's useless... he falls for her. The first night of love is like an ritual of poetry where rhymes cross... and mistery becomes deeper and deeper as the two lovers have to hide their love because of the unwritten rules of India. It is unbeareble for an indian girl's family to have their daughter in love with a "white guy"... So they hide their story, and this complicity only makes the whole thing more difficult to live with for the european guy. This and the fact that after their magical ritual of making love for the first time (they had a wedding in the garden, and they were married by the moon and the stars and nature was a witness to all that) Maytreyi started acting more and more bizzar, strange. And the european finnally suspects that Maytreyi is hoplessly in love with ... her poetry teacher (one of India's biggest poets). But Maytreyi is actually in love with... poetry. Eventually their affair is discovered by Maytreyi's family due to her younger sister. So, after a big scandal, Maytreyi is izolated, and she is forced to marry an old indian guy. The european tryies to contact her but he couldn't. So full with frustration and guilt for Maytryi's destiny he goes in the mountains to meditate. There he doubts more and more of the love story betweens them... if it really was one, or it was just ...

You will be surprised to find out that the story is true. The only things that are different are this:
The european guy is Mircea Eliade. The indian is one of India's biggest writers Surendranath Dasgupta (Eliade's teacher at the University of Calcutta), and Maytreyi is his daughter.
After Eliade's death (in 1986 ), actually a few years ago, "Maytryi" published a book, her own (true) jurnal where she confirmed Eliade's story and gives us more details regarding this story.
