Who ownes a spider? My daughter got one for Christmas!

For Christmas, my daughter, got a spider from her uncle. I just about had a panic attack. I am deathly afraid of spiders and have had panic attacks before. Why he would get her one, I have no idea! It is a rose haired trantula. We did a little research on the internet and found out that is very docile and very easy to maintain. My only fear is what would happen if it were to bite one of us or if it were to get out? I am not sure if I am going to keep it, but I thought I would give it a try, for my daughter. Is she too young to have a pet spider? She is 5 years old. What do you guys think? And, if you own a spider, can you give me some tips? Thanks so much!
