I was wondering if any of you out there use accounting software and if so which? Please also let me know whether it is for your personal assets or business assets. In the accounting industry, I have experienced that most people choose to use Microsoft Money for personal assets and Quickbooks for business assets. I am certified in Quickbooks and experienced in Microsoft Money. I am trying to see whether or not it is actually worth the time being certified for Money due to me experiencing that most businesses don't use them.

We use Tally accounting application for one company and Busy Accounting application for another company. Both are business assets but my perosnal feel is Tally is the best accounting application I have ever seen as far as operations and reporting is concerned.

It really depends on your budget, if your company has the luxury of using SAP then go for it, if SAP is too much then Microsoft Great Plains will do, there are also softwares such as MYOB and Peachtree but at the end it will still boils down on your budget to spend on the software.

Do not waste your time becoming certified for Microsoft Money. It is not a good business accounting program and if any business use it they very quickly outgrow it. Quickbooks is the most used by small new business but if they grow at all they well also outgrow it also. Peachtree has several products that are used by a lot of small businesses and are very comparable to Quickbooks in its ease of use but provide more details. I used their OneWritePlus program and that is also the software my accountant used. I liked it very much. If you are going to be dealing with inventory and POS (point of sale) issues you well need an advanced program like PeachTree Total Acounting or Sage Software which is very expensive ($1000 per module and up and just about any business needs at least three modules such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, etc.). If you are doing personal accounting MS MOney and Quiken are good for that but not worth anything for business use.
