What are the signs of heartbroken?

For me, when my ex-boyfriend broke up with me, I felt like my heart was gripped by a cold, cold hand. After that, I went through a period of disbelief that it actually happened. I felt like I was betrayed, like I lost something that has been a part of my life. I suffered from insomnia, depression, loss of appetite. To numb the pain, I got myself into doing many many things do that I won't have time to think about it. The pain however lasted a long time.
