Soul Singer Brown To Lie In Repose At Apollo Theatre

The body of James Brown is to lie in repose Thursday at New York's historic Apollo Theatre, where the Godfather of Soul made his debut more than 40 years ago. Fans will be able to say goodbye to the music legend, whose casket will be displayed on the stage of the theatre for seven hours beginning Thursday afternoon, NY1 news reported Wednesday. Brown died Monday at age 73. He had been hospitalized with pneumonia Sunday in the US city of Atlanta, and died Monday. The Apollo Theatre has launched numerous musical careers with its so-called Amateur Night contests, including those of Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sammy Davis Junior.
