What is the difference between taekwondo in the USA and in South Korea? | | I have been in taekwondo for about 2.5 years and I'm currently a red belt. I also visited Kukkiwon in South Korea this month and had the opportunity to watch the Korean National Taekwondo Team practice and chat with some of them. From my experience, I saw that the Korean team had such a drive, determination, and will for perfection, that it's incredible. How can we learn from them? How can we train our minds in this way? What drives this mind control? I look forward to hear other people's opinions and I can't wait to return to Seoul soon!

I think what sets them apart from the rest of the world, especially the US, is that Taekwondo is part of their culture, it's in their roots and traditions. USA really has no martial traditions, and that is why, I think, there aren't the great artists out there that you would get in Asian countries, or other respective traditional countries. Good luck in Seoul, and getting that black belt.^.^

Makoy1983 (966) | 3 years ago | as far as i've known, taekwondois not just a martial art in korea but some sort a way of life. many koreans are spending almost their entire life on the discipline. in school, taekwondo is a part of the curriculum. and i guess, they really have a strong sense of patriotism, no wonder why even until now, many koreans dominate taekwondo. though, many tkd jins from other countries have the drive and determination to win and succeed, that's why right now, other nationalities win tkd tournaments. steven lopez of USA is one
