"Made in China" drives me nuts!!! |
|
I have always done crafts. And I used to do craft shows. But 10 years ago I opened my own craft and gift shop in a quaint town in NJ. I build my own work.
People used to like hand made items but in the past few years I have noticed that home made does not matter anymore. I work hard to build quality items for my shop. Then I go to other shops and see the MIC items and that gets my blood boiling. The worst thing is going to craft shows and seeing the items people are selling and claiming they made them. When I know better.
I have the ability to purchase such things and I do have the catalogs. But I enjoy making the items and selling them. I would never claim to have made such cheap junk. I would be embarrassed to put my name to anything so cheap. And guess what folks. They are selling the things cheap but.... they are making a mint off of it. If it sells for $25 they only paid about $3. So you too are being ripped off.
The US stores have very little anymore that is made here! My husband owns a hardware store and in the past 10 years he has seen his stock like Stanley, go from being made in the U.S. to China and other places. How sad is that?
We need to stand up for the US workers! Get our jobs back. Buy Made in the USA!!

1. amira_milka (1923) | 4 years ago | I have come to accept that China is the leader of world market today and their hard to beat (their population too). With their staggering mass production that brought much cheaper products for the rest of the world’s consumers…there’s no way I can’t find anything in our house that’s practically not made in China (maybe at least around 80%). With this, China’s invasion brought certain effects in our third-world country. Aside that they offer much variety and much cheaper products they export here, unfortunately, our local market had push to extreme their product costing coz our local producers and business entrepreneurs are left behind by the Chinese and are running out of local customers. In effect, they had just to export more for the economy to be balanced. No one can blame us especially we are still experiencing economic crises. We can’t help but be more practical in times like these. And why not prefer Chinese products? The quality is as good as the local ones but the cost of the former is way much affordable than the latter. I wonder about other countries that have the same situation like ours. Anyway, i'm still patronizing our local products here.

| pizahr (31) | 4 years ago | I believe you are incorrect. I build as well as sell Made in China gifts and the China gifts are not the quality that I make. My work outlasts the other many times over. I have been doing this for 10 years and I know of what I speak. I have a following to my work. The money the consumer puts in their gas tank to get to the places that sell the Made in China product would more than make up the difference if they shopped locally. And if the consumer also knew that the seller is making 5 times or more than what they actually paid would the customer still purchase the items? But thanks for your input

mansha (4580) | 4 years ago | I agree with you chinese goods are worthless. Even our domestic market is flooded with that so much that some people believe chinese are planning to taje over the globe through economic invasions. everything has made in china written at the back and te quality is so bad that once spoiled there is no guarantee, exchange or repair. even I am sick of made in china stuff. Still people keep buying this stuff.

amira_milka (1923) | 4 years ago | I'm not generalizing that all products (100%) are of high-quality. In the case of my country, we buy at chinese stores coz they are much cheaper....as in very cheap than any other. Sorry to say, I'm not an American. I don't hate China after all. If you do...then so be it. You are just unlucky. I think you are not a SMART consumer.
| |
|
|
amira_milka (1923) | 4 years ago | Of course, everyone wants good quality but low cost.
| |
|
|
| pizahr (31) | 4 years ago | I did not say I dont buy Chinese product nor did I say I hated China! Do not put words in my mouth!! There is no where to go except my shop and a few others to get products that are made in the USA. You are a ignorant person for making that comment. Obviously you did not read my post. I do not blame the Chinese. I blame the US government for allowing the Chinese to take over the US market. The Chinese are smart.
I am just saying it is taking away from the US workers. We no longer have the jobs to support our families like 30 years ago. All are gone.

2. AlmightyBigfoot888 (543) | 4 years ago | just a simple fact:
a Barbie that sells for $17 in the malls, and other stores: -costs 17 CENTS to make in China -is made by someone who works 94 hours a week -is often made by someone under 16 years of age.
Made in China is simply the easiest way to make stuff. and i can't wait for the day that China cases in the debt they are owed by the USA.

3. ItTakesAllSorts (2208) | 4 years ago | Its the same in the UK. Many local shop owners have gone out of business due to the cheap imports we now have from other countries, including China or major supermarkets like Tescos. This also extends to call centres now. Alot of the time when I make a call I am phoning India. The only people who profit are the share-holders. Many workers in the UK have lost their jobs because companies move abroad. We import coal, when our mines are closed but could be re-opened, giving employment to so many. I wish you luck. Do you sell your products online as this seems the best way nowadays. Personally, I hate shopping and will always try to buy online first.

4. mikaghi (361) | 4 years ago | china has advantage over US on manufacturing cost, wages and also environment laws. i don't think buying US made goods will solve this problem. there need to be an effort by the US government to keeping manufacturing jobs in the country.
| |
| |
|
|
| pizahr (31) | 4 years ago | I totally agree with you. The government needs to work this. Did you know that much of the produce we still grow in the US goes out of the US? So we have to buy from outside the UNited States to feed our own? Thanks for commenting.

| 6. purplestar87 (89) | 4 years ago | Hmm.. this reminds me of the whole WalMart story. They buy from china were labor is cheap so they can sell their items cheap. Which in turn brings small 'made in america' stores out of business.

7. moneymind (7551) | 4 years ago | seems that you are having tough competesion huh. well china made things are really cheap but not that good also, and the fact that china is also the worlds leader when it come to manufacturing goods now a days made it more tough for u.s. and european companies to adjust their strategy and find it more practical to go china's way. now we are seeing lots of companies going east or to china for their cheap labor. really tough on your side i say. greetings.: )

8. vikrant_1980 (231) | 4 years ago | well, china is dominating markets of many countries as on today .. they are flodding there markets with cheap low quality look alikes which dont stand the test of time .. i n india too .. china has launched bikes made of plastic .. there was lot of craze initially as they were cheap.. but gradually it died down as ppl became aware of quality .. and now made in India bikeas are in favor again..
same thing happened with light bulbs.. chines made were available at 1/4 price but there life was 1/10 of indian made.. so they also were out of favor..
so dont worry .. ppl will soon become aware of quality and know what to buy..
one amazing fact though is that even small sculptures/idols of hindu dieties are have made in china tag

|
|
| pizahr (31) | 4 years ago | The other countries are allowing China to dominate. We need to cut back a little and give others a chance. Not just the USA. But until the government hears us we are just a few. I think you maybe right. Or the consumer will keep shopping. No matter what, I will continue until they stop coming. Thanks for responding.

amitsanger (129) | 4 years ago | vikrant is right. people has known by their experiences that chinese products are nowhere if the quality is concerned, as compared to indian products. and now they are becoming aware of that.Government has also increased the tariffs (like Anti dumping duties). thats why i think you must not worry. it is only the quality that will be remembered (considered) in the long run.
