| |  The main thing he will be remembered for was for pardoning his predecessor, Richard Nixon, who resigned in disgrace to avoid being impeached (he was involved in hiring burglars to break into the opposition party's headquaters).
Other than that, my main memory is of a very humble man who was a contrast to a lot of egotistical politicians. He was a moderate who got along with and was respected by people of both parties. It's too bad that he's gone, but he had a very full life and lived to be 93. We should all be so lucky.
