My early morning routine includes coffee and reading the comics page in the paper. Do you read the comics, either in your newspaper or online? What is your favorite comic strip and why? Has your paper ever pulled a strip that you really loved and you miss it? Our paper recently did a shake-up of the comics page and a few of the new additions just aren't funny:(

I haven't read the comics in a while, but some of my favorites used to be Doonesbury,Cathy, The Wizard of Id and The Family Circus. Also that strip bout the married couple, the wife was always grouchy? Of course this was years ago-- I don't even know what comics they have now, but I'll look this morning! It may be fun to take a break from things and read the comics again!

That's what it is for me too:) A peaceful way to start my day LOL

The comics have changed so much in our paper with many of the old "classics" being pulled. Peanuts, Garfield, Beetle Bailey, etc., have been replaced by newer strips such as Zits, Pooch Cafe, Pearls Before Swine... One that I was really enjoying was Boondocks but the artist, Aaron McGruder, decided to take time off from it.

I don't usually enjoy the "soap opera" type comics (like Sally Forth... ugh) but there is one strip that I've been reading for years and I'm really impressed with how the creator has aged the characters and story lines in a real "true to life" way. It's "For Better or For Worse" by Lynn Johnston (http://www.fborfw.com/strip_fix/). She runs multiple story lines about each of the family's children (who have gone all the way from babies to young adults) and also about the parents and grandparents. I guess I relate to a lot of what happens in her strips.

One of my daughter's loves Cathy... she subscribes to it by email and gets the daily in her inbox. Sign of the times LOL

I also like "For Better For Worse". It's been running for years and the kids really grew up over the years, unlike most strips where people stay the same age.
Youre right about the soap opera type strips-- they are so slow and they're not funny so what's the point?

Growing up I used to read the comics every sunday when we got the paper. Then there started to be more and more of the boring comics and less of the kinds I like. However I do enjoy comic strip books, like my Garfield and Dilbert books, b/c then I can buy my favorite comic in bulk:)

i've never really found many comics i liked, but one that i try never to miss is Garfield. I love garfield, he's just so funny, and cute! I've read this one since childhood. I've even got the daily comic strip on my home page here, as i don't get newspapers daily. I can skim over all of the other comics, though i used to like Beetle Bailey for a while.
