3. muralikumar2005 (519) | 3 years ago | In the old days, athletes used to stretch before every workout, but then experts warned that those who stretched before a workout were more likely to suffer a pulled muscle than those who hadn’t stretched. Now, stretching before a workout seems to be back in style once again. What’s going on? As it turns out, there are two types of stretching: static and dynamic. During a static stretch, you lean into the stretch until you feel only a slight discomfort in the target muscle, never pain. Because stretching in this way makes the target muscle slightly weaker, performing this stretch before you’re warmed up may cause a strength imbalance right when you need to perform. When it comes time to work out, this could lead to muscle pulls, strains and tears. Although static stretches may lead to injury when performed before you’re warmed up, they still have a place in your daily routine. You can do them any time of day (except prior to a workout of course) to help your body better deal with daily activities in life such as bending, squatting and kneeling. In order to reap the benefits of static stretching, you need to do two sessions a day. Though that may seem like a lot, each session need only last four minutes, and you don’t have to warm up beforehand. Whether you’re stretching your calves, hamstrings or other body part, hold each movement for 15-30 seconds in order to reap the maximum benefits.

4. sunflowergirl (2897) | 3 years ago | I believe in warming up and not stretching til the end, has worked for me in everything - Tri's, runs. basketball, etc. Only exception is if I have a strained/tight muscle. Then i warm up a little and start stretching when it first occurs!

8. hellboi (605) | 3 years ago | Yes definitely, especially if you are going to do some heavy weight-lifting. Stretching loosens up your muscles such that it would not be too stiff to undergo stenuous activities like lifting.
If you do not stretch properly or not stretch at all before a workout routine, there is a high tendency that you'll have muscle tears, painful muscle sores and other msucle problems.
It is also advisable to do the same stretching after your workout routine. That way your muscles could again loosen up after the tightening it gets due to the lifting exercises you did.

| 9. simonllabelle (62) | 1 month ago | actually you shouldn't strech lkike most people think, in fact you should do what we call activation, it's more like dynamic stretching method were your body moves a lot more than in regular streches. Te reason is that when you workout, you muscles contract and when you strech your msucle strech... My therapist and my doctor both told me tha I risk to break my joints if I do not strech properly... Watch out!!

10. jpso138 (3625) | 4 weeks ago | Yes, I think it is very important to do stretching out before starting with workout. Even with other activities that involves physical movement like playing tennis, basketball, swimming, etc. The best would be is to stretch out first in order to prepare the body and muscles for the activity. Doing so without stretching may cause muscle cramps.
