Love.... email this discussion to a friend?

So you found your soul mate?

A lot of people fool themselves by saying that they are.
Here's a way to tell if you are really in love....

Do you think about them all the time?
Do you go ridiculously far out of your way just to be with them?
Do your gazes, thoughts or world revolve around them?
Do you become sexually attracted to them every time you see or think about them?
Would you die if they left you?

There are five questions. How many did you anser "yes" to? How many did you answer "no" to? Count them now before reading further. Believe it or not, if you answered at least 1 of those questions as "yes", then it is likely that you are not in love. Those questions pertain to people who are infatuated, not in love. I know that there are a lot of young people on this web site, so please know that it is extremely rare for a teenager to feel true love without infatuation clouding it up, and know that you have plenty of time to find that person.

The biggest question is the last one. I once had a boyfriend who always told me that he would die if I wasn't there. Though it may be flattering to hear, I could tell he was serious. That's not what love is. First of all, you're putting the other one to blame as to what happens to you. That isn't a fair relationship. Second, if you absolutely cannot live without them, and litterally decide not to live without them by commiting suicide, you leave the other in a lot of pain. Would you really want that if you truely loved them?

Anyway, it's just something to think about. Hopefully it might save someone from making a mistake someday...I dunno.

I don't totally agree with you on this one. I know I can live without my husband, but I don't want to. I do think about him all the time, because I love him and want him with me. We have fun without being physical, yet everytime I see him I do have "mature" thoughts about him. Yes, I can see how that can be infatuation, but I don't think I am merely infatuated by my husband. I do agree with you that kids now a days swear they are in love when 90% are merely infatuated by that person, but it isn't just kids either. It is grown people also. You can't discriminate against younger people just because they have it out in the open more than "grown ups" do.

I'm not trying to discriminate against kids, heck I sort of am one, but like you said, there's no denying that most adolescents are infatuated despite their term being "love". Yes, adults do it too, this wasn't to just be for the kids, and I'm sorry I made it sound like that.
