Why do so many people on MyLot talk about their relationships?  

I will certainly look over your discussions. Usually I just start looking at whatever pops up on the discussion page when I sign on, and sometimes even go a few pages into the list, and it all seems to be about getting along. I don't mind some of that, but it seems like so much when there are so many interesting things in the world to discover.

I see you found your way over and thanks for adding your input to my discussion, I truly appreciate that. In fact it's the only thing that allowed me to return and see what you posted here.

I hardly ever look at the discussions that come up when we first logon. I click over to my friends discussions, then answer as many comments as I can under my own current ones, and finally hit the new discussions to scan the topics looking for new friends I can attract. By that time I'm all finished.

I guess that this is a universal theme...how we get along with the people in our lives. However, it sure seems like a lot of drama is happening out there.

I sometimes watch "General Hospital" if you can believe it, although I don't like to admit it. My sister got me hooked. However, when I watch that or any other TV show, I know that it is all made up and the characters are fictitious, not real. Here, when I read about everyone's drama, I usually find it sad. Everyone seems fixated on the negative when there are so many things to love about life and so many wonderful things to experience and learn about. I guess if everyone was talking about things in a more balanced way, I would have a different opinion, but when people bring so many troubles to a discussion board like this, I'd rather stick with the soap operas.

You are so right. There are a lot of people on this site, and you would think that would make it ripe for great topics and conversation, but that's not necessarily so. Let me know if you have a way of filtering through to find some interesting topics. I'm still trying to figure it out myself.

I agree with your point. It seems that it is easier for everyone to give an opinion about something like relationships instead of being more thought-provoking. I guess what surprises me is how personal some of the information is that people share with others online. Not that I have any secrets, but isn't your personal life your own, not to be shared except with close friends and family?

You are definitely right: sex sells. However, I find one discussion about relationships after another boring. I have finally figured out to click on my interest links and I can find discussions under topics like writing that are more interesting...one of the ways I've found some of your discussions, for example, which are more in line with what I like to think and talk about.

It's strange because I also belong to Gather and there is very little about relationships on that board, although people do share things about their lives. It's just so different in tone. I wonder if people gravitate to certain discussion boards or if it is just fate that all the folks who like to talk about relationships end up here?
