Tomorrow is promised to no one. I think it is very important to stay in touch with friends. My first cousin passed away in Sept. before i could see him again. I decided the time was right to get together and do some reminiscing. I don't get that opportunity. We grew up together,hardly ever seperated, only by distance. My decision to see Dwayne came too late. I regret it but i can learn from it. Just pick up the phone and have a good day!

I don't believe you can just drop your best friend because your circumstances have changed. I have been friends with my best friend since as far back as I can remeber and we are both in our sixties now. She got married and divorced and moved to the UK and I stayed here in Ireland and I am still married. We are both as different as chalk and cheese, we have our ups and downs and I would never think of giving her up. We lost touch for about ten years and then started communicating again. Now we regularly talk on the phone and we make frequent visits to each other during the year. I think best friends are for life.

I would try and talk to her and see if you two can discuss things and see if you two can have the same friendship that you had while growing up together. It would be sad to lose a friend that you have known since you were little. All friendships do go through some good and bad times. If you two talk and she doesn't want to continue your friendship or be friends like the good old days then there is nothing you can do.

A 39 year friendship doesn't just happen. It did require work along the way. She needs a strong friend to help her through the divorce. There is the ackwardness because you handled your divorce differently than she has because of the different personalities. She resents you for being more independent than she is. She recents the fact that you work from home and are more available for your teen than she is. Long and short, she is jealous of you and that is causing some of the ackwardness.

I say give her a call and go out for drinks or dinner. Start slow and just let her know that you are there if she needs a shoulder to lean on. (Also, if she is dating heavily, you don't know the grief that she could be getting from her kids?) Try not to judge until you've walked in that persons shoes. I think you can get through this if you both work at it. Good Luck!

Ya it happens that when u loose contact with some very good friend u tend to think that it will reduce the affection tht u have for the other person. But according to me if the friendship is close enought than u shouldnt worry. Because true friendship never loose the warmth and affection. Even if u both dont talk it wont impact ur friendship,

I would try to reconnect if the friendship is valued and from what you write I believe it is.

I have a friend of over thirty years and occasionally we will drift in and out of each others lives as our own circumstances in life change. However, we remain in touch and do include each other in important moments.

Our friendship seems to work in cycles.

I have friends with which I have felt that awkwardness lately too. We all have our own lives. But, remember that life is short. Give a call to a friend whom you haven't spoken to in a while. Get together for a cup of coffee or have them over for dinner. Just get together. Insist on it. Sometimes we need to take the initiative (it is what I always have to do). Huggers to you.
