My parents were married for 53 years,and it had it's ups and downs,but they were happy.
I never did get married,and now I regret not having looked harder,I am now 60 and lonely,you do not notice this when you are young and have your family neer to you,but when they die or move far away,you wish things had turned out different.

But when you truly have trust, loyalty and feel safe- i think that says most of it. i now believe that Understanding each other means that you have developed a friendship. And hopefully a best friend. And with that, everything kinda just falls into place. And you go from "loving" that person to "being IN love"! and that, i would imagine, makes for a great marriage=)
