Do you think that the Giants organization should let Barry Bonds go? |
| |
| I am sure you all heard the news and the hoopla surrounding Barry Bonds and his last failed test on amphetimines. I am TIRED OF IT. I wished that Barry bonds would just announce his retirement. Baseball fans, what do you think that this organization should do with Barry Bonds? Wait until 2007 baseball season is over or let him go? | | | | | |

| | I do think they should let him go but I doubt that they will unless something even more serious comes out. Apparently a first failed test for amphetamines does not get a punishment but any other failed test will require suspensions. He obviously can not play on a regular basis anymore either because of his knees so he should retire. The Giants need to think about their future and move on with someone younger who can play everyday. He wants to try and break Hank Aarons home run record, which I think even if he does it would be tainted. | | | | | | |

| | No, you let him go. Anyone who breaks the law deserves to lose their job, I don't care who you are or what your little union says. I don't care how much money you make, you ARE in the role of a role model, and all those kids who look up to Barry Bonds pay attention to what goes on in the news, and kids talk. That's teaching them that doing something illegal is ok, because noone is going to punish you for it. Fire him now, and ban him. | | | | | | |

| | I guess I will be the lone dissenting voice in this discussion. I think the Giants should have signed Barry, but they signed him for way too much. He didn't deserve more than ten million - at most. He has been a tremendous asset to the SF Giants for 14 years. He isn't the only person who has tested positive for amphetimenes, so why become hypocrites and say that he is the only one who should be punished? I think he should have to deal with the rolling Sweeney under the bus, but as far as the poppers? Let's not deal with that. And, once again, how is all HIS confidential information being made publc through leaks? | | | | | | |

| | This one was not a true leak. It was information released to the court at the request of ???? Such information becomes public unless the judge seals it for some reason. He did not. It's fair game for public consumption. | | | |

| | As much as I hate to admit it, SmileKeith above is right. I am no fan of Barry Bonds, but he doesn't deserve to lose his job over this one. The organization didn't even have knowledge of this until it came out in the courts. I do think the team has the right to renegotiate his contract, because all contracts have that "behavior" clause in them that gives the clubs leeway in contracts over certain behavior, drugs being one of those behaviors. $16 million is way to much to give to the man. I don't hve a problem with that much to another player, but not Bonds. He has been hurt too much, if no other reason. For goodness sakes, any one ever hear of performance incentives?? I say, offer Bonds a lot less, which he won't accept. Take the $16 and sign a very good pitcher, then use the excess to rebuild the upper level of their farm system. Let Bonds go somewhere else, like the Independant league. | | | | | | |

| | I was weirded out by the releasing of just his amphetamine test, now I'm a conspiracy theorist so bare with me! I know that Barry's contract hasn't been finalized and I know that MLB (Selig) doesn't want Barry to break that home run record... Wouldn't this convienient leak seem to be directed at getting Bonds to not sign because of it? We didn't hear of one other player that failed amphetamine test all last season, so why is just Barry's name coming out? There have to be some alterior motives behind the releasing of the failed test! I could care less if he breaks it or not, I'm an A's fan and the Giant's are in that other league that doesn't matter until the World Series anyways! I'm glad Zito didn't end up on an eastcoast team though, I hope he's successful for your team! | | | | | | |
