What is the general view of South Africa from the people of the world...? |
|
I live in South Africa and have done my entire life. I was wondering what view people from around the world have of my country? The reason i ask this is because of the fact that it is a very beautiful country but is let down by the crime rate and also the aids count. Im not sure on the information people are getting around the world but people i have spoken to have mixed opinions about South Africa. Some just think its one big aids farm while others really appreciate the beauty our country offers. Let me know what you think if you have been here or know people who live here etc...

Rumple (185) | 3 years ago | Yes the weather here is quite hot and Nelson Mandela is still alive. I dread to think whats going to happen once he passes away though. You should come visit S.A. sometime... its quite an experience

3. monica1216 (381) | 3 years ago | I don't think that most people know very much about South Africa. I do remember being surprised in school during geography lessons to learn that South Africa had a primarily white government and was out of sync with the population demograhics. I don't know very much at all about South Africa or if that is even true anymore. I do hope that the racial balance of those in power is more equal in recent years.
Anyway my main reason for replying here was just to give you a compliment... you're such a cute boy!
Best wishes to you! :)

Rumple (185) | 3 years ago | Yeah i feel not many people do know much about South Africa. Although we do have top international Cricket and Rugby teams. Yes we did have a big apartheid time here in S.A. but that was long ago and now it seems things are the other way round. Our government is now black but there seems to be less racial problems. It will be interesting to see how things develope here in the future, hopefull for the better. And thank you very much for the compliment:)*blush*

4. cremechese (4503) | 3 years ago | I haven't been to South Africa but would love to go. It looks beautiful. Unfortunately, in America quite often when we think of South Africa we think of "apartheid" and racism, racial discord in general. We still have it here, believe me, especially in the American South. I've seen documentaries regarding hate crimes from both sides in both your country and my own. It's always disturbing and frustrating and hard for me to understand.

Rumple (185) | 3 years ago | There are racial issues everywhere in the world and there is no escaping it. South Africa is a very beautiful country and i would advise a visit. I wouldnt advise going to Johannesburg though, one of the coastal cities would be much better, Cape Town or Durban.

5. Miranda (597) | 3 years ago | I am from south africa and speak online with allot of horse trainers overseas. Having horses and all. And I was quite suprised about their views. Most of them have only heard good things about us, like our wonderfull game reserves our beautifull landscapes and so on. They also know we are advanced in our technology and always ask how hot it get's here.

6. Eisenherz (2495) | 3 years ago | I think South Africa has all the potential to be the major african country once it gets past all of it's cultural problems. I belive the past is still sort of heavy on people's minds, specially around the big cities. But it is indeed a beautiful country and rich by nature. It has everything for flourishing economically within the next 4 years, with the 2010 Football WC to be organized around there and all...it's up to you south african people whether to grab this chance to learn and improve or simply get stuck behind. One thing I don't like about South Africa though it the political scene...it seems it's always the least developing-friendly parties that come out on top somehow, or at least that's the impression I get.

Rumple (185) | 3 years ago | yes well hopefully the world cup will make us take advantage of the opportunities that arise from it but i cant help but think that its not going to happen. You are right in that we do have the things that could make us a better and stronger country in the future but its going to take something special for that to happen. Could be a bit of a bumpy ride till then. Thanks for the comment

7. oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | The thing I was surprised about was the huge unemployment problem in the cities. I had some good friends serve a two year mission there as employment specialists teaching the people how to secure jobs.
Their home now looks like a South African museum and the art treasure they brought back are stunning. Later on they had a couple visit them from Durban for a few months and I got to know them. The gent was a singer, so we brought him in for a little quartet singing since our bass had left town.
I can't honestly say I have a burning desire to visit South Africa, but I have seen a lot of images from there and appreciated the beauty.

| Ginja_Ninja (15) | 3 years ago | huge unemployment problem? In terms of developing nations South Africa is streaks ahead at only 20% unemployed, this maybe high in terms of developed nations but one must compare apples with apples. This courties potential is unbelievable. The racial problems of our past have come further in the last 13 years of democracy than any other nation. I have visited the USA, the racial undertones that I felt in that country were very unnerving, far worse than here.
South Africa's problem is with it's skill shortage, but over the coming years the coutry is aiming at a 6% growth, which is incredibly high considering the fact that our GDP is higher than almost all developing countries, bar china and brazil.
Please enlighten yourself to South Africa, were we have french, dutch, zulu, xhosa english and indian heritage to emerse yourself with.
