|
Frends there was a time say B4 ten yrs when the floppy disk were so popular Data Storage media, Now wid introduction of CD s and DVds they have been extinct. even when I bought My pC my retailer offered me the floppy drive free of cost, but i refused to have even the free piece rather I brought a pack of Cds. Do U think the CDs will face the same fate one day

1. grayxenon (211) | 4 years ago | well nothing stays forever, and with the massive developement on technology i will not wonder if within 2 ot 3 more years and cd will be out of the market too. as for the floopy drive it should have gone long way before, besides the fact that is not reliable in Data Storage, it is so inconvenient becuase it can only hold very little amount of data.:)

AnythngArt (1737) | 4 years ago | I agree, one day sooner than you expect those CDs will be a thing of the past. Technology moves so fast and people come to expect new, easier to use, more advanced items every few months. Just look at the buzz over the iPhone from Apple. I remember a few years back when everyone had VHS tapes and now you can only find DVDs and DVD players to watch your movies...and we know that they are changing to Blue Ray, too. It's best just not to get too heavily invested in any technology for the long, long term, I say.

3. mimpi1911 (8172) | 4 years ago | it's true that floppy disk is hardly used nowadays, but its importance and the part played by it since the inception of computers cannot be overlooked. it has played its part and now CD and external drives have come to forefront. i think external drives are far more easy to use than the CD. it requires a burning process in a CD, whereas in external drives we can COPY and PASTE or SEND and storage capacity is also huge, more than that of CDs.
i think CD will soon lose its utility for am definte these external removal drives will completely rule the show.
thank you, keep sharing

AnythngArt (1737) | 4 years ago | CDs are also used a lot for sharing information, which nowadays is all done via the Internet and file compression and delivery. With broadband, it can be so fast that folks think why burn a CD when I can just download the file from the Internet and security has improved, so I can hopefully protect the information transition from one user to another. I think CDs will eventually disappear altogether.

4. circuit (236) | 4 years ago | floppy is extint but it is a very useful device..... it is very often used by crackers to break into the sam based operating systems.. so its good for me.... new technologies take place of the older ones but even now floppy drive is found in almost every pc so i think its a tradition of having a floppy drive in your system

5. Asylum (3407) | 4 years ago | The floppy drive is far from extinct and despite the fact that most computers are now sold without the drives they are still fairly popular. I use a floppy disk regular to archive my financial data stored on an Excel spreadsheet. If my floppy drive developed a problem then I would replace it, and I even have a spare drive at home. I have a DVD rewriter and a CD rewriter, but I see very little point in using a CD to store a couple of spreadsheets or documents.

nw1911guy (800) | 4 years ago | Exactly! That is what I see as the floppy's strong suit is small files, particularly if they need to be transported or mailed or something along those lines.

6. darkblade (119) | 4 years ago | Well quite frankly, it should already be at its end of life term. Nowadays, flash drives are a better option, besides being more portable (size), they hold a lot more data than floppies. CDs on the other hand will be at its end of life term too soon enough. As you can see, DVD already replaced it as the medium for home movies, heck even DVDs now come in two pieces for home movies. It just means that data nowadays are larger compared before.

7. nihalnihal (519) | 4 years ago | I hate floppies like anything. I am glad it's no more in my PC. I removed it a few years back. In one of seminars, I had taken some slides in floppy diskettes and it failed to open up! Corrupt files and can't copy and stuffs. I got really frustrated. From that day on, I use a thumb drive which is more reliable and faster with more memory. Many people prefer to buy a DVD writer instead of CDRW these days as there is not much of a price difference..CDs will be gone in few years time...

kgwat70 (10109) | 4 years ago | I do not like floppy disks anymore and do not use it at all while I am at home as I use my flash drive or my cd burner. They hold more information and last longer than a floppy disk.

Asylum (3407) | 4 years ago | I cannot disagree with the usefulness of a flash drive, I have one myself that hilds 1 Gb. Nevertheless, I do disagree with the fact that data can become corrupt on a floppy constitutes an argument against it, as data can also get coruupted on a flash drive or your computer's hard drive. Even a CD or DVD are not guaranteed to maintain their stability and the data can decay and degrade over time.

9. kgwat70 (10109) | 4 years ago | I think that floppy disk drives are used less now then in previous years due to the invention of cds, dvds as well as the flash drives. A floppy disk drive is now an option in a new computer. Floppy disks hold very little information that it is not as useful as it used to be in the past. Eventually I think it will be a thing of the past.
