Is Adobe Acrobat Reader really NECESSARY?  |

|  I use PDF Reports quite a bit like the one linked to my little slide show on my profile. Instead of a website they may lose in their bookmarks, my visitors get a file they can save on their desktop and read again later.
Well I painfully downloaded the latest version the other day and it screwed up. Somehow it registered a bunch of extra programs twice in my registry, so all of the errors had to be clicked off to get it to run, which takes way too long already.
I tried to reinstalled it, but when I got to looking at 20 Mb download and all the extra stuff they want to tack on by default, I revolted. I found Foxit 2.0 and in seconds after a 1.5 Mb download I was up and running. This thing is free and comes up in a flash! I Love It!
So I said to myself, "Self, Why don't you tell your friends at myLot about your Good Fortune?" which is what I'm doing.
If you want to save time whenever you read a PDF file, dump Acrobat Reader and get Foxit 2.0 for free.
What do you think about all these huge bloated software packages and companies that think they own your computer?

| |  You have to watch whatever you download since many of them have components that just come with them and they can play havoc with what you already have. Then if you remove them then the download probably won't act correctly. Just best to go to download.com and look for the things you wish to use. First using all your computer already can do when you get it. All things should work for the good of the operations. Not always is that so..so sad! Will check ot the Foxit 2.0, might work with my internet explorer and xp..not sure!! Thanks oldbuddy!

| |  I don't like them. That is why I dumped AOL. I had connection problems and they were always trying to take over my computer. I am no fan of Adobe either. I would never pay for it. I only use it because so many articles go throught it. Are you telling me that I can use Foxit to read any PDF file? That is good news.
I completely agree, there are many companies that have the "bloated" feeling of extra software attached to them. Thanks.

| |  I shall thry this Foxit myself, I don't think I will be allowed to install it at work but if it works as well as you say I will probably use it at home. I have to deal with students who get a lot of online journals in PDF form. This mught be useful to them also.
