Kids don't want to hang out with parents...

What do you do when your kids are teens, and want to either stay at home all the time or run with their friends, instead of going out to dinner or shopping with you? They don't seem motivated. My daughter used to be joined at my hip-like I had four feet, and now at 13 she seems embarrassed to hang out with me. Is it a stage? Or will it pass?

i guesss there is some time when kids dont want to be with their parents..
but that is not the right thing to do.if family members behave with their child like a friend they will never ever be against you.
you need to make your child comfortable

I think it has something to do with maybe bumping into her friends in the stores or mall? I don't want to force her--or bribe her (too much):)

don't feel bad it is a stage and it will pass. i have six children and one on the way. my 16 yr and my 12 yr old go out with their friends but still manage to stay stuck under me. we have a close relationship but not the we are friends one. we they think that you all are girlfriends that when they think they are your age. then you have to hurt their feelings becasue they thought wrong and tried to try me. once i got that straight as to who the parent and the child was the respect is still there. so i assumne you and your daughter have a close relationship and be patient.

I'm so hoping it will pass! Yes, my daughter and I have a very close relationship. She tells me things that I would have NEVER been able to tell my mother! I just miss the 2 extra feet hanging out of my butt...

it will pass, by the time they reach 16 they will be your best friend again. Personally i don't know why parents put up with teenagers, if i was my dad i would have chucked me out of my house at the age of 15. But now i love going home to see my mummy and daddy

Thank you for your insight, from the kid point of view.
