This is a question that i have wanted to ask for years. You see in my junior and senior years we never once had what you would call cheerleaders. We played Volleyball, Basketball and Floor Hockey and we always had great teams but we never had any Cheerleaders. Did your Hugh School have a Cheerleading Squad???

Yes, my high school had a Junior Varsity squad and a Varsity squad. The girls were a "unique" bunch- very uppity and snobbish. They cheered at the football, basketball, soccer, and field hockey games.

I attended a cheerleading camp offered in my middle school for two weeks in sixth and seventh grade. Then I pretty much gave it up all together for dance. My high school did have cheerleading as a sport. Most of them were what you would consider "popular," however, I don't think I would say they all fit into those "snobby" and "arrogant" stereoptypes.

Yes we had a cheerleading squad just for the intramural games. Our school is pretty big that consists of around 2000 students from freshman to senior, we have 11 sections per year or level (freshman to senior) and there will be auditions for the cheerleaders for each level and then they will compete with the other levels. Most of the times seniors win because they are more experienced in cheering, dancing and even acrobatics. I could've joined when I was a seinor but my swimming coach won't permit me to because I might hurt myself. They are not snnobby and most of them really asks other students to give suggestions on how to make their performance better.

No my high school didn't had a cheerleading squad. We also had Volleyball, Basketball and Soccer teams but we never had any cheerleaders.
I think that we didn't have them because no one had the job to create a cheerleading squad.

My daughters go to the same high school that I went to and, "back in the day," I don't recall that we had cheerleaders. Our town had them for the city-run sports like football - but there was nothing at the school. Now, they do have cheerleaders but, as my daughters would say, "they're pathetic!" They like to parade around in their short skirts but they don't actually cheer at sporting events. Most of the time they just stand around, looking at each other. They apparently practice dance routines but they aren't aggressive about presenting them. They did participate in a school talent show I attended and, as much as I hate to say it, they WERE pretty awful. They were stumbling over each other and giggling so immaturely on stage that we, in the audience, were embarrassed for them. The thing is, there is no real cheerleading coach to take charge of them -- the group is always run by the most senior student. So, I guess they don't take it seriously. Such a shame. They could be real boosters of school spirit if they could get it together!

yes my junior high and high school had a cheerleading squad. they weren't very good though. the pom poms were better because they dance and are much better than the cheerleading squad.

My high school had a cheerleading squad. My junior high also had one and I tried out but only because my friends talked me into it. I didn't like it in the first place and knew I wasn't going to make it because it just wasn't my thing. I wasn't the jock type at all. The only sport I liked to play during gym class was hockey and dodge ball because I was at least somewhat good at these sports. :)

Nope, not mine. I think that cheerleading tradition is more american or maybe also canadian, but definately not spanish nor european in general. Every time i watch one of those american movies with teenagers i see the typical football player and the blonde cheerleaders...and i always say to myself...man that would be impossible here!

Yes my school had the cheerleaders and they were really snobby. I just couldn't stand them. They thought they were better than everybody else. My daughter's school has them to but they don't do a whole lot of cheering. They are off flirting with the boys.

Nope, thsi phenomenon never excisted in Swedn and I am kind of glad it didn“t.Seems to be one of those things that more divides the students into different groups..
So no cheer-leaders here, also no school-band or chess-club *hehe*

Nope no cheerleading squad, never even heard of it until I saw Grease. Did not even know what a cheerleader was or how big a culture it was in America. Football and Cheerleading!
In my school the boys played football, girls played Netball or rounders for girls in the summer and cricket for the boys in the summer.
