What do you think of Los Angeles? |
|
I have lived in California for most of my life, and often wonder if I will ever move out to another state. If you have been to LA,(or live there) what did (do) you think of it? Be sure to mention which part of LA you are talking about. LA is a big area! For me I love the shopping, and the different ethnicities, the wide variety of food, and the palm trees!

1. Debs_place (6723) | 3 years ago | I was last in LA in 1984, I think it was. The air was too thick, it took until lunch until the sun could burn through it.
I went there on a business trip. Got there and we were told the stuff we had to set up would be there the next day (saturday) it did not arrive. Got hold of the boss, and he said, have a good weekend. Call me on Monday,
We went to Disney, saw Bowser. The next day we went to Universal Studios - Bruce was broke, and I got soaked in the flash floods. Cool day.
On Monday, the boss said the hardware would arrive on Tuesday - have a nice day.
Knott's Berry Farm - here we come.
On Tuesday the hardware arrived, they did not send everything. We could not get at it until the evening because of the show. And they forgot some. Call the boss.
On Wednesday - he had someone fly the hardware out.
Sat out by the pool, it was March, the weather was beautiful.
On Thurday afternoon, the hardware arrived. We set it up that evening. Went to Grauman's - that chinese theater.
We worked Friday morning, broke down Friday afternoon. What a conference!! I am sure we made a lot of sales.
Left Friday afternoon and drove down to San Diego to visit some friends. Left there on Sunday.
LA is great, met a guy who looked like Phil Donohue and lived a few miles from him, on a street of a similar name. He said they often left packages for the real Phil at his house, so we would deliver them personally. He said they got to be pretty good friends.
I liked LA - but the traffic - was way too much. Reminds me of Chicago.

| 2. krushgroove (24) | 3 years ago | I love LA. My sister has lived in Marina Del Rey and Ranchos Palos Verdes, but I've been all over the place. I love the diversity also and there is just sooo much to do there, especially compared to my small city. I like it so much I am hoping to move there in the future!

3. oldbuddy (5748) | 3 years ago | I was born in Watts in 1938, moved six years later to Oxnard, then back to SW LA where I graduated high school, then Lawndale, and Simi Valley, then in 1969 to Oregon and never looked back. I go visit relatives down there but only for a week or so, then I want to come home. I think it's a great place to be from.

4. kate1356 (487) | 3 years ago | I was born and raised in Massachusetts. I have always lived in Massachusetts and I don't see myself ever Moving Out of State.
I have been to Los Angeles a couple of times. I really enjoyed both visits. You can't beat the weather and I am a huge fan of palm trees too. I enjoyed shopping in Santa Monica (but not the sales tax.. we only pay 5% sales tax here and no sales tax on clothing). My first visit was in January. I thought it was funny because it was 65 degrees outside and a lot of the people were all bundled up in sweaters and jackets. (It had been 30 degrees at home..so 65 was quite warm to me.) I noticed the culture is a lot more laid back too.. We were at one restaurant where we waited well over an hour for our meal. Things move a bit quicker in the Northeast.

5. AmbiePam (15339) | 3 years ago | I was in LA briefly. I had a two day stop over before getting on another flight. I landed at LAX and got a hotel about 2 miles away. I thought it was a very pretty city, no doubt. Especially around the airport. It was 7 years ago, things might have changed, but back then it was nice. I did notice that no one seemed to look you in the eye. I'm so used to smiling at people or saying hi, that is was unusual for me to see people not bothering to do that. This was pre 9/11. Despite all that, when people DID talk to you they were polite, and more than willing to share information on the best places to go. I didn't stray far from the hotel because I was dependant upon a cab, but I'd go back. No doubt.

6. margieanneart (16820) | 3 years ago | When I was raised in LA, it was a far cry from what it is today. I lived in the city, and then moved out to the valley. San Franando Valley. Things were beautiful and friendly. Freeways unjamed, no smog. Now it is awful, way to overcrowded and crazy. I like the open air. I now reside in the desert, and it is peaceful, but not for long either, as a lot of people from CA are moving out this way.

7. elizabethbathory (549) | 3 years ago | Having lived in southern California for several years, I generally think of Los Angeles as a warmer version of New York City, with palm trees. Perhaps that's too broad of a generalization, but the best one I can think.

8. avonrep1 (1191) | 3 years ago | I have been to LA and I like to visit the area for short periods at a time, but there are too many people there for many. Too much noise, on this plane and the next for me there to live there full time. I did live in Barstow for awhile, and that sucked really badly. I have moved back home to Indiana and would never live in CA again.

9. thrwbckjay67 (2582) | 3 years ago | Born and raised in Northern California, but I have always loved living in Southern California. However, I am not a big fan of L.A. itself. I love Ventura County (where my wife is from)... from Ventura down to Thousand Oaks, even Oxnard and Camarillo, I could see myself living there (if only cause she wants to move back so badly...)
Then I love Orange County. I think it's got some of the most beautiful coastline in California in terms of urban areas. I lived in San Diego for a year and that is my paradise. From downtown San Diego, the Gaslamp, to La Jolla and Del Mar, that is such a beautiful area. I went to UC-San Diego and it's always cool there, right by the beach...
