Childhood Movies Relived...Or Should I Say Rewatched... | | Have you ever watched an old movie from when you were younger and had your child or children watch it with you?Do you sit there and watch their face/faces during the parts of the movie that made you laugh, cry, etc?Do you still feel the same way now about the movie as you did then?I got the Disney movie "Pete's Dragon" on DVD the other day.Now I have it on VHS and my 8 year old daughter has seen it before, but it has been awhile. So we watched it and I just loved watching her face, her reactions to the movie. They so mirrored my own, back then, and now, that it was scary. It was also a wonderful feeling.I've seen that movie many times and it still makes me feel the same way as it did the first time. There are other movies I could talk about in this context too,but I'll just stick with one for now. What about you? Stephanie

Mostly I'll just buy them for myself on a whim as I see them, but I'll always be a kid at heart lol. Most of them have been the older Disney movies, followed by Secret of Nihm, which was my favorite as a kid, and The Dark Crystal was probably my last purchase, only because I get a kick out how one of the characters speaks.
I also think it's interesting to see how they take the older movies compared to the newer ones, they just aren't the same anymore, in my opinion. Granted, technology's better, but I dunno...cartoons especially don't seem to have the same life-like, realistic quality. It's all weird, freaky animation now. No fun. It's also kind of neat to show them some of the old books that I still have, like Berenstein Bears.

| | | 6. Garcia5 (72) | 3 years ago | The Neverending Story. I thought it would be fun, especially since I never read it, to read it to the kids and then let them watch the movie. The read was interesting since I never knew what Sabastian calls the Child Like Empress. Its still an amazing classic film that should be treated better on DVD. Maybe a 5.1 surround option with special features like deleted scenes and some info on the book.

It is nice to see someone younger still enjoy the classics. She of course is a littel scared of the witch. But chears and has tears when the witch is dead. Of course the discussions about the "little people" has me laughing and telling serious stories of little people I have met, enjoyed, and now miss as they live shorter lives than most. And how a lion gets his hair curled and looks more like a girl not a boy lion. And she loves to skip and sing "Follow the Yellow Brick Road". She also has a facination in saying "There is no place like home," especially if we have been gone for awhile. My favorite part was always when Dorothy and Toto are following the yellow brick road and meeting the Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion. When Dorothy thumps the Lion on the nose and tells him to pick on someone his own size, I still laugh at that beacuse Lions are suppose to be brave and couragous as well as my daughter. She thinks the Lion is silly! My oldest son now into Star Wars, the way he acts when the have the sword fight, different from me, but entertaining. And many other scenes. I think he is more into Star Wars than my brothers were when they were younger! Or even having the youngest now get into movies that his older brother used to watch. Neither one of them at the age of 2 was or is taking naps UNLESS they watch Toy Story laying with their boppy pillow and blanket on the floor and accidentally dose off. Ah peace and quiet:) CC

| | | 9. geriscott_ph (48) | 3 years ago | well, i like watching the cartoons Land Before Time, Beauty and the Beast and Fern Gully, plus the movie The Neverending Story... And yeah, you're right, the feeling is wonderful, it brings back the inner child in you, it's sometimes a feeling of nostalgia and melancholy, but it also feels good that such movies remind us that we were once young, and if not had the best but at least the good times of childhood times...
