2. sylvrrain (598) | 3 years ago | I think that bar owners should be held responsible for giving too much alcohol to someone. I also believe that the ABC board should revoke their ABC liscense and fine them. I do not think the bar owners should be held responsible for someone getting into an accident. Reason being, a person is legally able to go into a bar and order a drink. That person should drink responsibly. The person made an adult decision to have a drink, they should have also made an adult decision to have a designated driver or a call a taxi cab. When ever we go out to a bar, we always choose someone to stay sober to drive.

3. rainbow (3928) | 3 years ago | How could this work, the person could have been in several bars and had a bottle of something in their car too? A lot of bars will refuse to serve you if you have had a lot to drink and are not in control, they do here anyway. It's a good idea if we could find a way to make it work.!

4. k5scottangel (994) | 3 years ago | That's muddy water. One of my cloest friends is a bartender. His practice is to shut any off who it is clear is a danger to the public.
My gut reaction is to say that a drunk person goes out and kills someone on the way home then UES the bar should be held liable. It;s not that easy however.
Every person holds there drinks differently. For example, I went out last night with some friends and had 5 drinks. I was not drunk or even buzzed. I however am over 200 pounds so my body can hold more drinks then someone lighter can.
Let's say i left that bar and grill and went down the road and had six more drinks. By this time I have had 11 drinks but the guy at the second bar does not knbow this. Lets say I get in a car and from there I stop at a late night club and have two more drinks. In toyal i have had 13 drinks. It's late and I go home and I get in the wreck and kill somebody.
At that point who is at fault? Is it the first bar where I had my frist drinks? Is it the club where I had my last few drinks?" The problem with holding the bar responible, isd that you never know if a person had drinks or other drugs BEFORE they show up.

5. funny52f (5136) | 3 years ago | In our country bars are supposed to have signs like "No Liquors for Minors" posted for everyone to read. However, since these bars also depend on the profit they make for the day, these reminders are not followed. These signs are just there to follow government requirement but do not really serve their real purpose. So long as people have the money, they get as much drink as they want. So when accidents happen, who is to blame? Most of those who frequent bars are old enough to know that drinking and driving don't match. People should know the consequence of their actions.

ShadowWalker (825) | 3 years ago | I think that the bartender should be observant enough to know when it's time to cut someone off. Then offer to call them a cab if they don't have a designated driver. But when it comes to holding the bartender responsible for what happens once the patron steps outside the establishment is rediculous. They are an adult and they are able to make adult decisions. Intoxicated or not. If you can't hold your drink then don't drink.

6. organiclady35 (6039) | 3 years ago | This is a difficult one. I am not a fan of alcohol and I dont like the taste of it. I have seen the damage that it does to other people's bodies from tv programmes where they had body scans and their insides eg the liver etc was badly damaged. I dont think we would get to a situation where no alcohol was served in all public bars. If we did get to that situation then there would be no problems as if no alcohol was available then no harm would be caused.
I realise it is not that simple as many people will lose their jobs etc if alcohol production and sales were stopped. I think the bar owners are responsible for the amount of alcohol sold but how can they keep a tally on everyone? They would need some kind of special thing eg where they scanned that person's fingerprints everytime they bought a drink. That way they would know how much they had drunk. Just a thought, but it might help to stop the large amounts that people drink.

7. missyd79 (2891) | 3 years ago | i do not feel the bar owners should be responsible because there are alot of times that some people do not look intoxicated. how can they pin that on the bar owners if they are not aware that a person is intoxicate, i mean everybody is different as to how they react to alcohol.

8. Jemmifire (3419) | 3 years ago | I don't think the bar owners or workers should be responsible because there is only 3 bartenders to like 80+ people.. how are they supposed to remember who drank what, and how much? Plus people go up and buy drinks for other people.

9. dana234 (1355) | 3 years ago | No, I don´t think the bar owners should be held responsible. First of all it´s impossible to control everybody´s alcohol intake. I think it´s each individual should have enough common sense and conscience to know when they´ve had enough or definately too much and call a taxi instead of taking their car to drive home.

10. catwoman1459 (1253) | 3 years ago | that's a sticky one. bars should not have to baby sit there customers. I know of some bars that do offer a free taxi ride home for people that get too drunk. I think that more places need to offer this to help cut down on drunk driving.
