do you regret your gastric bypass?

Gastric bypass can be very dangerous. I wanted to get it done too. but instead I have decided to do a health plan.
the one I am doing is "The Makers Diet" and I have been on it since Jan. 15 and I already feel a change.
I dont feel so crappy. The scale already shows I am a few pounds lighter. I know I have a ways to go but you know what, I am gonna get there. and so can she. she doesnt need to risk her life to lose weight. she just needs support and to want to do it..
I always wanted to do it but could never stick to a health plan and hated exercise, but I just have to do it. I have to get up. Im sick of always saying next year, next year. forget it, I am ready for it to happen already. so just give her support.. tell her to save her money and forget that surgery and just eat healthy.. I can help you with ideas if you want.. or if she has internet access I will gladly buddy up with her. I have a weight loss group with a few other ladies and we would love to give support.

My sister had it done 2 1/2 years ago. Before, She was miserable and cranky, had no energy. But now, she zips all around the place and is a very busy person. I am proud of her and her devotion to change herself. It has changed her life for the better. Her medical problems such as breathing problems have cut down considerably.

I am classed as 'morbidly obese' and have considered the surgery - but am always put off by the complications and possibilities of not so great outcomes. My doc says the risk is not greater that the risk I'm at already, being so overweight with a family history of heart disease... that scares me too.

I have a friend that had the surgery done - she managed to lose 25kgs quite quickly (that's around 55 lbs) but can't seem to get any further... and she still has around 45kgs to lose. She has found that she still has the same 'food issues' and that she manages very nicely to keep her calorie intake up beyond what is necessary to lose weight.

The issues with food that many overweight people have (including myself) are that we use food as our 'drug of choice' - using it to feed our discontent... when in reality, what we need to do is address whatever other issues we have so that we can break the 'addiction' or 'emotional eating' that causes our overweight.

Just a few thoughts.

I have heard mixed things about it. I know a few people who have gained the weight back and I would think that can become quite dangerous. I know some people who have the band and are doing great. Good luck to your sister, whatever decision she makes

I don't know a lot about surgery but I hope ur sister have a good think about that,after all nature is the best.

My best friend had it and she loves it! She lost like 100 pounds and looks great. My sister-in-law had it done around the same time, but she hasn't lost her weight. She started to, but then gained it all back. I think it could because she drinks a lot of alcohol though. There are other options besides have the gastric bypass done though. One is called a lap belt. The doctors go in and put a rubber band type thing around part of your stomach. It's less invasive and less dangerous. It's also reversible where gastric bypass is not. You don't lose the weight quite as fast, but the results are pretty much the same. I have seriously thought about talking to my doctor about it. I've also considered the surgery, but I'm scared because it is so dangerous. I haven't heard anyone who has had the surgery say that they wished they hadn't had it though. Your sister should sit down and talk to her doctor. Maybe he can suggest other options. I feel the surgery should be the last resort. Tell your sister good luck.

I, myself, have never had this surgery, but a great friend and co-worker of mine had it about 9 months ago. He has lost over 100 lbs and looks 10 years younger. He said that the side effects for him were minimal and he feels so great! He says that the most simple of tasks, like tying your shoes or walking from your car are so different now. Your sister should make sure she does the research and consults with her doctors to make the right decision for herself.

I had a co-worker do this recently and had many problems. But, they got better and now her health is as good as ever. She's had to make some major changes with eating habits that others take for granted, but she seems happy with it. But, it's still recent, so I don't know how it will be for her in the long run.

I don't regret because I don't have one,but I believe that she must to try other stuff to lose the weight,maybe she can to lose weight with other diet or healthy life.I think that is better than surgerry.
