Who remembers back to the 80´s on the group MARILLION??? |
| |
| I remember being a big fan of their music that was more into progressiv rock and loved the vocals of their singer called Fish. I just realized how many albums i have from them, so who knows them and listens to records like Script for a jester´s tear/ Fugazi/Real to reel/Misplaced childhood & other´s. Special the live record Real To Reel is my favourite. Also vocalist Fish did some great solo records. I didn´t like the period after Fish had left the group in the 90´s. What are your opinions on the group??? feel free on your comments and name your favourite songs & albums. | | Marillion | | | | |

| | Hi steerpyke, yes forgotton sons is great and the Script For A Jester´s Tear is one of there best albums, to me the Marillion records with Fish are still worth listening now a days i love that style in progressiv music they created. Real To Reel is a marvelous live record that shows the groups stage skills. | | | |

| | Hiya I'm a 'new generation' Marillion fan, (my music teacher got me into them a few years ago!). I like both old and new marillion stuff, to update you, they are releasing their 14th studio album this April, their last one 'marbles' was a really good album honestly. I went to the album launch party and sitting there listening to the new songs for the first time was amazing, the atmosphere was electric. I love going to Marillion gigs because the fans are fantastic. I love both the fish and steve eras. | | | | | | |

| | I used to be a big Marillion fan when I was about 14-16, both of their earlier stuff (when Fish was still the vocalist) and their later stuff (once he left the band, someone with the surname "Hogarth" I think, joined as vocalist) which was different in style musically and lyrically, but not altogether different, just typically 1990s: less characterful. Nowadays they're not one of my fave bands (I grew out of their angst-ridden introspective bleakness - they're really more for the hormonal teens in my opinion), but it brings back memories whenever I hear one of their songs. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for your open opinion, yes i must say i didn´t listen them when Hogarth came in it was to much a break in their traditional style also the voice of Fish was really missing for me. I still though after listend to the solo albums Fish released, i like them. And today i still listen them ol´ Marillion records also brings back some good memorys on the 80´s. | | | |

| | I think maybe its the 'hormonal teen at heart' these days as most of the audience tend to be in their 30s and 40s! | | | |

| | sorry to say but I know them only by name. I know the were an 80's progressive rock band and nothing more. I think they could be something like genesis. I will check out them even if I'm not a great fan of progressive rock. I like more a metal progressive band called pain of salvation. Do you know them? I suggest to listen to them, they play good quality music and they play different kind of musics in different albums. All the albums are good except the last one "scarsick" it is a bit weird...my favourites ones instead are "remedy lane" and "entropia". Then talking about progressive right now I prefer progressive but more extreme like death prog bands. For sure I like not linear songs, with something innovative. | | | | | | |

| | Hi jamz, well sure i´m older then you and i listen to them in the 80´s when they had their best time. Yes i know the critics said so it´s like a Genesis copy & Fish sings like Peter Gabriel i don´t agree with that at all, that´s just if you listen to them superficial and you know how these critics can be. I didn´t listen anymore to progressiv metall lately, i would say i prefer more progressiv in rock music. But i get to listen them you mention. It´s just i can´t listen for longer to metall music anymore, i don´t like really music that screams at me ..if you get what i mean. Also my opinion is that a lot of groups say they are into progressiv but it´s just loud & agressiv that´s not really the deal in being progressiv in my view. Thanks for looking in Jamz. | | | |

| | I didn't know about that critics but I told you the first though about Marillion. I know what you mean, you don't like music too aggressive like some metal bands. Pain of Salvation have lot of type of sounds but I don't think they're aggressive and their music isn't easy to label but is very close to progressive metal/rock. they don't play linear music for sure :D that's what I like about them. They opened lot of time Dream Theatre live. I think DT is a band that join more adult fans of prog rock 70's and new fans like teenagers of new rock and prog metal. For example a father of a friend of mine listen to Dream Theatre but he listen most prog bands 70-80's. | | | |

| | I rememeber Marillion, they were a big band back in the 80's and had quite a following with a very diversifcate fanbase. It wasn't my kind of thing though, so can't tell you that I am or ever been a fan of these guys. | | | | | | |

| | I have already told you that I like our musical conversations very much because we share some favourite musicians but also have many different likes, so to improve and widen our musical knowledge..this is one of the moment I think I am very ignorant as music is concerned...you see, I have to admit I have never heard about this particular group you're talking about..were they very famous in the 80s? Am i the only one who doesn't know them or were they a particular kind of group? which kind of music did they play? I am very curious and interested in learning something new..I am always interested in listening and learning something new...the best thing is that we can learn something new until the last day | | | | | | |
