I have a chook and have been told she is egg bound. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to help her. I have rang places but no-one seems to know what to do. The poor chook was egg bound and then the egg broke, so it started coming out in pieces. This has happened a couple of times now. Please help if you have any ideas on what I can do for her before my husband goes through with the threat to eat the chook. Incase anyone is wondering the chooks name is Bek.

Im glad to hear that everything is going well with "Bek" the chook. Sadly we lost one of our chooks a few weeks ago because she was eggbound. We tried our hardest to help her get better, but it just wasnt to be. This is the first time that any of our girls have had this illness. Hopefully it wont happen again.

I'm sorry to hear about your chook. None of my other chooks have had any problems, knock on wood. I am hoping Bek doesn't have any more problems now. Thanks!

Hi superchook (any relation to Chicken Man?),
Funny that this has cropped up again about a year after it's initial posting.
This sort of thing is one of the reasons that I'd be anxious about raising chooks, although I would dearly like to.
I think I'd have a hard time coping with all the traumas that the poor little things are apt to go through as they peck and scratch their way around the yard.
I'm sorry to hear your little bird passed away. It might only be a chook, but they all have feelings, and they all have their story, and while they might not be prone to self-pity, it's still awfully hard not to empathize with them.

oh dear, I do hope bek survived the ordeal... I read the response of your first poster in this discussion and think it was marvelous. I was going to suggest mineral oil myself - have you ever checked into www.backyardchickens.com? or the feathersite website? they have lots of useful information.

I guess I'm lucky, I only have roosters as pets. I don't feel lucky at 4am though heehee

This might be a dumb question, but why do you only have roosters?
I don't have any roosters and I am glad about that because they can be so noisy. I feel sorry for you at 4am. Sometimes my chooks can be really noisy, I couldn't imagine what having roosters would be like. Thanks!
